Satow offers two distinctive highlights for visitors: Satower See and its adventure trail, and the historic church complex in the town center. If you are looking for a hotel, these differences can help you choose your destination: would you like to make time for nature, activity and time by the water, or are you particularly interested in architectural history and the historic townscape? Both themes shape Satow, without limiting your stay to just one of them.

Satower See and Adventure Trail

Satower See is located in Satow and covers 6.8 hectares. Paddle boats and stand-up paddleboards are permitted on the lake; check the local rules before taking part. The play and adventure trail runs around the lake and is suitable for walks, hikes and outings with the whole family. Along the route, various stations and signs provide information about the local flora and fauna and the history of the region. Rest areas add a practical touch to the trail, combining exercise with opportunities to take a break and linger.

A well-maintained bathing area with a beach is located on the lake’s north shore. If you plan to visit, check its current condition in advance. The bathing area and permitted activities on the water offer a different focus from the adventure trail’s stations: here, the emphasis is on spending time on the shore or lake, while the trail focuses on nature and regional history.

Church Complex and Local History

The 13th-century monastery church ruins, regarded as a local landmark, lie in the middle of a park and define the town center. The old Satow church was built between 1219 and 1224 in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic and is one of the oldest buildings in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Since 1945, the Satow church has been used jointly by Protestant and Catholic Christians. Its construction in the early 13th century and its shared use since 1945 offer two clearly distinct periods in the church’s history. The old cemetery surrounding the church ruins also has a park-like character and provides a setting for a variety of cultural activities. Together, these features offer different perspectives on Satow’s local history through its architectural heritage, religious use and cultural activities.
