The road information helps you get your bearings in the destination.

Church and local attractions

The central church in Tarnow is one of the few two-nave hall churches and stands on a hill. Its elevated position and rare design are two distinctive features of the building. The Old Church is one of Tarnow’s attractions, and the Ancient Mill is also a local attraction.

Tarnow thus offers different points of interest for visitors interested in buildings and local attractions. The church is notable for its architecture and location, while the Old Church and Ancient Mill are additional named destinations to choose from.

Stone circles and archaeological traces

The Boitin Stone Dance is a prehistoric ritual and burial site between Boitin, a district of Tarnow, and Dreetz near Bützow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. A signposted path leads there. The site comprises four legendary stone circles and is located in the middle of the forest; it is a hiking destination in the area around Tarnow.

The dating of a find also makes the site interesting for those interested in archaeology: an archaeological survey at the Boitin Stone Dance in 1929 uncovered an urn burial from the Early Pre-Roman Iron Age, dating approximately to 600–400 BC. There are also three megalithic tombs and a burial mound in the nearby forest. This area therefore brings together landscape and archaeological history, without conflating the individual sites.

Destinations in the municipality of Tarnow

The vicarage in Zernin, in the municipality of Tarnow, now houses a gallery with a café. The district of Boitin offers another possible focus with its idyllically situated lake: the lake could be an insider tip for anglers and swimmers.

These destinations complement the local attractions with a variety of themes across the municipality. If you are primarily interested in culture when planning your trip, the vicarage has a gallery; the lake in Boitin is more likely to appeal to visitors interested in fishing or swimming.

More to discover in the wider destination of Rostock

The wider destination of Rostock offers additional, distinct nature and cultural attractions. The Sternberg Lake District Nature Park is characterised by deeply incised breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, numerous lakes, picturesque hills and extensive forests. It is particularly well suited to hiking and cycling.

At the Wolhynian Resettler Museum in Linstow, guided tours for groups and individuals present the history of the Volhynian Germans. Ethnographic objects, photographs and documents trace the story from the mid-19th century through to their settlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War. The museum therefore offers a historical focus that is clearly distinct from the archaeological sites near Tarnow.

The historic Molli narrow-gauge railway offers a different perspective on the wider destination of Rostock. It runs between Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan and is the oldest narrow-gauge railway on the Baltic coast. For getting around the region, buses and trains operate in the Rostock district as part of the transport association; with one ticket, holidaymakers can travel throughout the region, including the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock.
