Klein Belitz: Manor Houses and Village History
Accommodation in Klein Belitz
Klein Belitz can be explored through several distinctive features: manor houses from two eras, a village forge that has been in operation since 1822, and a cycling route that passes through the village. Together, these give the area a profile shaped by architectural history, craftsmanship, and cycling. The municipality of Klein Belitz also includes the districts of Neukirchen and Selow.
Manor Houses and Historic Buildings
Two manor houses from different eras stand side by side in Klein Belitz. The old manor house was built around 1825 as a two-storey, Neoclassical rendered building; the new manor house was constructed in 1903 in the Neo-Baroque style. Their construction dates and styles create distinct architectural accents. Klein Belitz Manor House is a listed building. The Inspector’s House, dating from 1903, is also located at Hauptstraße 15/16.
The village forge is also part of the area’s history: it has been in operation since 1822. Klein Belitz also has a local history museum. Alongside the manor houses, craftsmanship and local history are therefore among the village’s attractions.
Church and Village Inn in the Municipality
A 13th-century church stands in Neukirchen, a district of the municipality of Klein Belitz. It was built from granite stones, and its tower rises high above the surrounding landscape. In Selow, the village inn is associated with Mecklenburg cuisine. These two places are part of the municipality’s surrounding area, but lie outside the settlement of Klein Belitz itself.
Cycling Through Klein Belitz
An approximately 59-kilometre cycling route runs from Warnow to Groß Klein, passing through Tarnow, Rühn, Bützow, and Klein Belitz. The stated distance refers to the entire route. This places Klein Belitz on a longer cycling route; it is not a measure of a route within the village. If you include the route in your plans, it is advisable to check its current condition before setting out, as conditions may change.
More Places to Explore in the Wider Rostock Destination
The wider Rostock destination also includes places of natural and wildlife interest. Sternberger Seenland Nature Park is characterized by deeply incised breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, numerous lakes, picturesque hills, and extensive forests. Hiking and cycling are the main activities there. At Wildpark-MV, visitors can explore the park independently or join guided walks, including wolf, owl, and evening walks.
Another historic destination in the wider Rostock area is the Molli narrow-gauge railway. It runs between Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan and is the oldest narrow-gauge railway on the Baltic coast. With its rare 900-millimetre gauge, it has shaped the local landscape since 1886. In Linstow, the Volhynian Resettler Museum offers guided tours for groups and individuals. Using ethnographic objects, photographs, and documents, the tours tell the story of the Volhynian Germans from the mid-19th century until their resettlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War.
