Gutow: Swimming Spots, Fruit Blossom and Ganschow Stud Farm
Accommodation in Gutow
Gutow offers a range of highlights to consider when planning a trip: the Ganschow Mare Parade at Ganschow Stud Farm, municipal swimming spots and a landscape shaped by lakes, marshland and fruit orchards. These themes can offer different focal points for your stay—from an event date to seasonal natural attractions.
Swimming Spots and the Landscape Around Gutow
There are municipal swimming spots in Bülower Burg and Gutow, within the Gutower Moor and Schöninsel Nature Reserve. Seasonal conditions may vary, so take this into account when planning. Lake Inselsee and Lake Sumpfsee border the municipality of Gutow. The village lies at the entrance to a varied terminal moraine landscape south of Güstrow, which is part of the Mecklenburg Lake District. Gutow’s fruit orchards are also a seasonal attraction: they are worth seeing when in bloom.
The natural attractions vary with the seasons. The fruit orchards take centre stage when in bloom; during the nesting and stopover season, visitors can observe numerous geese and ducks, as well as kingfishers and black kites, on Lake Inselsee.
The Ganschow Mare Parade and Stud Farm
The Ganschow Mare Parades attract several thousand visitors each year. The parade is a family event at which more than 200 horses and their handlers present a combination of breeding, sport and showmanship. The programme includes around 20 show acts. These include Germany’s largest tandem quadrille, with 32 harnessed horses, led by Manfred Ulrich. The event thus brings together various aspects of horse breeding and equestrian sport in a show.
The parade takes place over three weekends in July each year. On event days, visitors can tour the stud’s stables from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Check the exact dates with the organiser before your trip if you would like to plan your stay around the parade. At Ganschow Stud Farm, visitors can also see horses under saddle or in harness and learn how they were raised.
Nature Reserve: Features and Rules
The Gutower Moor and Schöninsel Nature Reserve is located near Gutow. The marsh areas are not accessible on foot, and visitors are not permitted to enter Schöninsel either. Motorboats with combustion engines are not permitted on the waters. Small information boards describing the nature reserve’s features are located at two entrances. These signs help visitors orient themselves on site; the stated access restrictions determine which areas may not be entered or navigated.
More Destinations in the Broader Rostock Travel Region
The broader Rostock travel region has more independent destinations to visit. At Wildpark-MV, visitors can explore the park on their own or join guided walks, including wolf, owl and evening walks. Schwaan Adventure and Climbing Forest has seven courses for children, beginners and advanced climbers. Its 116.5-metre-long flying fox zipline runs directly over the lake. The broader Rostock travel region therefore offers additional activities that differ from Gutow’s swimming spots, landscape and equestrian event. As facilities may change, check the latest information before visiting.
