Cammin and the municipality of which it is part offer a range of options for a stay: the village church in the town, historic buildings in other parts of the municipality, and hikes along two waterways. The church in Weitendorf near Cammin and Wohrenstorf Manor House are outside the Cammin settlement. So when looking for a hotel in Cammin, it is worth deciding what you want to focus on: should the town itself be the main attraction, or are you also planning to visit places in other parts of the municipality?

Cammin Village Church: Architectural Style and Furnishings

Cammin Village Church is a rectangular fieldstone building with dressed cornerstones. Inside the church is a carved altar dating from around 1500. It also has an organ made in 1722 by Lübeck organ builder H. Hantelmann, a student of A. Schnitger. The village church thus brings together an altar whose date is approximate and an organ with an exact year of construction. Its architectural form and furnishings offer different points of interest for anyone interested in historic churches and their details.

Cammin Manor House and Its Building History

Cammin Manor House includes the estate manager’s house, which was built in the late 19th century. The restoration relates to the manor house building itself, which was restored at the initiative of a support association. Since 2003, it has housed the Freie Grundschule “Storchenschule Cammin” (Free Primary School “Stork School Cammin”). The dates refer to different things: the construction of the house belonging to the manor and the restoration of the manor house building. The school’s use of the building is another part of the manor house’s history.

Church and Manor House in Other Parts of the Municipality

The smallest place of worship in Rostock district stands in Weitendorf near Cammin. It has a ground area of 16 by 8 meters and was first mentioned in an account book in 1503. It is made mostly of granite boulders. Bricks appear in the upper part of the west gable and in sections of the masonry. A wooden Baroque pulpit with a whale as its base adds another architectural detail. The dimensions, different building materials and pulpit describe distinct aspects of the same church building.

Wohrenstorf Manor House was built between 1732 and 1735; its façade was renovated in 2014. Original stucco elements have been preserved on all the ceilings. The foyer and most of the doors and their surrounds have also been preserved. The manor house also includes the remains of a landscaped garden. The estate is privately owned. The construction period and façade renovation mark two different points in its building history, while the preserved interior details offer another way to appreciate the building.
