Süllwarden: Cycling Routes and Excursion Destinations

Cycling is a specific focus in the area around Süllwarden. The routes vary in length and character; there are also destinations for birdwatching, regional products, and mudflat experiences. This lets you plan your trip around the activities you want, rather than treating every destination as a single tour. Two of them are circular routes; the Milch-Ku(h)l Tour passes through Syuggewarden and Süllwarden in the direction of Seeverns.

Tour 08 from Tossens to Ruhwarden is a 26.88 km circular cycling route that passes through Süllwarden. It is therefore 6.83 km longer than Tour 06. A recommended detour leads to salt marshes where you can observe various bird species. By comparison, Tour 06 offers the shorter route of moderate difficulty, while Tour 08 has its own focus on nature observation.

Another route is the Butjadingen Milch-Ku(h)l Tour: it passes through Syuggewarden and Süllwarden in the direction of Seeverns. This connects Süllwarden with another specific place to include in your route planning. In Seeverns near Süllwarden, you can enjoy homemade cake and various dairy products at one of the traditional Melkhüs. If you would also like to enjoy cake and dairy products on an excursion, you can plan Seeverns as a separate stop.

On the Milch-Ku(h)l Tour, you can also visit the “Hof Seeverns” farm, run by the Harbers-Bahr family, in the area around Süllwarden; advance registration is required. If a visit to the farm is part of your plans, arrange it in advance.

More Excursion Destinations

Fedderwardersiel is also in the area around Süllwarden and offers a different kind of experience. There, you can buy fresh brown shrimp straight from a shrimp boat and enjoy the atmosphere of the small harbor. This excursion combines a specific purchase with the harbor setting, making it appealing not only to cyclists but also to travelers who want to include a harbor visit in their plans.

In the wider region around Süllwarden, near Tossens and Eckwarderhörne, “Der Wattschnack” lets you experience different types of mudflats, from sandy flats to muddy flats, and wade through tidal creeks. The variety of mudflat types and wading through tidal creeks give this excursion two specific points of focus; it also differs from spending time on a bike. The regional location matters for planning: this experience is near Tossens and Eckwarderhörne, not directly in Süllwarden.
