When planning a stay in Schneverdingen, you can first choose between travelling for a specific event or focusing on the landscape, trails or culture. The traditional Heather Blossom Festival offers an annual occasion; Höpen, the Heather Garden and the trails in the Osterheide offer different highlights. At the Theeshof, cultural events and traditional spinning take centre stage. These differences can help you decide on the purpose of your trip before looking for hotels in Schneverdingen.

The Heather Blossom Festival as a set occasion for your trip

The traditional Heather Blossom Festival in Schneverdingen takes place every year on the last weekend in August. A Heather Queen is traditionally crowned at the festival. Its recurring date gives you a clear reference point for planning your trip. If you want to time your stay to coincide with the festival, check the specific dates for your chosen year.

Höpen and the Heather Garden

The Höpen landscape conservation area lies in the north of Schneverdingen. A popular local recreation destination, it features terrain shaped by the Ice Age. Höpen is therefore known for its landforms, which were formed during the Ice Age. The Schneverdingen Heather Garden offers a different highlight: it contains around 200 different varieties of heather, with approximately 200,000 plants.

The paths through the Heather Garden are paved and allow wheelchair users, people with walking frames and visitors with pushchairs to travel through or stroll around the grounds. Check the current path conditions before your visit. The Heather Garden is described as freely accessible and free to visit; check before your visit whether access is currently still available on these terms.

Trails and guided walks

The Heidebauernweg is a circular family trail that passes fields where crops grown in the days of traditional heathland farming are cultivated. The Nordic walking routes in the Osterheide offer different landscape views: they run through the Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve, crossing open heathland, following forest edges and passing Sylvestersee lake. You can choose between a trail focused on historic farming and routes through heathland, along the forest edge and by the lake.

From April to October, guided walks of around two hours are offered through Höpen and the Heather Garden. Allow approximately two hours and check the specific dates before your trip.

Culture at the Theeshof

The Theeshof is a venue for theatre performances, poetry readings and film evenings. The local heritage association’s spinning and weaving group at the Theeshof demonstrates traditional spinning. Alongside the landscape and trails, there is therefore also a cultural programme with a range of formats. If you plan to attend a performance, reading, film evening or demonstration, check the dates in advance.
