Wölfersheim offers a range of highlights for a stay: historic buildings, trails focused on nature and history, and activities at Wölfersheim Lake. Historic Buildings in Wölfersheim
The White Tower is a 27-meter-high round tower with a stone roof and a battlement walk. It was the largest structure in the town’s fortifications, which were completed with the tower in 1408. As a landmark of the Wölfersheim district, it is a distinctive point of reference for anyone interested in local history. The Protestant Reformed Church of Wölfersheim is one of the largest Baroque hall churches in Germany. The tower and church represent different historic architectural styles: the tower points to the fortifications, while the church exemplifies Baroque hall-church architecture.
Trails and Activities
The Singberg adventure trail is a family-friendly circular route about 3.5 kilometers long. It passes through orchards, a small forest and a ravine. Interactive stations, activities and obstacles make the route varied; there is also information about animals and plants. The circular trail combines exercise with nature-related topics and fun, hands-on activities.
Other trails focus on different themes. The Luther Trail 1521, which runs between Worms and Wartburg Castle, passes from Hungen through Wölfersheim to Friedberg. The Limes Cycle Route follows the Limes past Wölfersheim. There are also running routes around Wölfersheim Lake: the suggested options include a circular route of about 3.5 kilometers and routes of 5, 10 and 20 kilometers. This lets you choose according to the activity and distance you prefer.
At Wölfersheim Lake, the Red Lama Football Golf Resort offers football golf to individuals and groups by advance booking; fun and team building are also part of the offering. Be sure to book in advance and check the booking conditions before your visit.
Wölfersheim Lake and Energy History
At 37 hectares, Wölfersheim Lake is the largest lake in the Wetterau lake district. It was created by open-cast mining for lignite, which was mined here in the first half of the 20th century. Information panels along the Historic Circular Trail by the lake explain how the lake was formed, as well as the mining and power plant history of the site. QR codes provide additional content, including an audio guide and video footage.
The Historic Circular Trail is largely accessible, but there is currently no accessible toilet for people with disabilities there. This limitation is important to consider when planning your visit. The Wölfersheim Energy Museum offers another way to explore the history of energy, bridging historic energy production from lignite and renewable energy.
