Glauburg offers travelers archaeological attractions, nature and cycling. Highlights include the Celtic World Trail at Glauberg, museum finds and the Volcano Cycle Route; in Stockheim, you can also visit St. Judas Thaddäus Parish Church. If you are looking for a hotel in Glauburg, you can first consider which of these different themes you want to shape your stay: a trail outdoors, archaeological collections or a cycling route.

Celtic World Trail and archaeological finds

The Celtic World Trail is a circular route of around 2.2 kilometers along an unpaved path. It leads to the mountain plateau of the Glauberg, where traces of the Celtic fortifications and remains from the Middle Ages can be found. The distance is not the only practical consideration: some sections of the ascent and descent are very steep, and the trail is not accessible. Check local conditions before setting out and take these characteristics into account when planning your route.

At the Celtic World at Glauberg, the museum displays archaeological finds from the graves of three Celtic rulers discovered at the Glauberg. Original finds from the Glauberg also include settlement finds. They offer insights into the world of the Celts at the Glauberg around 400 BC. The exhibition therefore encompasses both grave finds and evidence of settlement life.

The Glauberg Museum covers a broad span of time: exhibits include Stone Age tools, the find of the Celtic Prince of the Glauberg and items relating to local life in the 19th century. Advance registration is required for visits. Plan your visit with registration in mind; the Celtic World Trail, by contrast, offers a separate outdoor circular route.

Nature and outdoor activities

The natural landscape around the Glauberg includes orchards, insect meadows, heritage livestock breeds, storks and beavers, shady forests and unpaved trails. Open landscapes and wooded areas are both part of the scenery, along with habitats for wildlife. Whether you see storks or beavers can vary. Nature offers a different focus from the archaeological collections: the emphasis is on landscapes and habitats rather than finds in an exhibition.

For cycling, the Volcano Cycle Route is another option. It runs for 34 kilometers through the Wetterau district to Glauberg station and passes through Stockheim, among other places. Stockheim and Glauberg are connected to local public transport. The approximately 2.2-kilometer Celtic World Trail and the 34-kilometer section of the Volcano Cycle Route represent different types of route. If you plan to use public transport for your trip, check the current connections.

Architecture in Stockheim

St. Judas Thaddäus Catholic Parish Church is located in Stockheim. Built in 1927, it is a pure example of Art Deco architecture. Its architecture provides a different accent from the Celtic and medieval traces at the Glauberg: here, a church building from the early 20th century shapes the cultural offering. The sights of Glauburg thus range from archaeological artifacts to a specific example of Art Deco.

The Wetterau as a regional setting

The Wetterau also offers its own perspective on nature and cycling. The nature reserves in the Wetterau district are accessible to visitors via information boards, observation points, and hiking and cycling trails. The Bingenheimer Ried is one of the key areas of the Auenverbund Wetterau floodplain conservation area.

Cyclists can also explore a network of regional and long-distance routes in the Wetterau; many of them are connected. The Volcano Cycle Route through the Wetterau district is one specific route, while the regional network offers a broader overview of cycling routes in the Wetterau.
