Rodgau can be explored in different ways: the 41.2-kilometre Rodgau Circular Route runs through Rodgau and its surrounding area and can be explored on foot or by bicycle. If you are interested in local history, the Rodgau Historic Trails offer a different format: five routes together form a chain of sites. Parks, the lido and historic sites round out these options. When planning your stay, you can focus on different things—exercise, history or individual places in the city.

Rodgau Circular Route: on foot or by bicycle

The circular route is 41.2 kilometres long. It runs mainly through fields and forests, passing through the districts only occasionally. The route is signposted and accessible in both directions. This information gives you an overview of the route’s length and character; check the route details before setting out. GPX data is also available to download for planning.

You can also consider doing just part of the route: sections of the Rodgau Circular Route can be combined with the S-Bahn. Every district in Rodgau has an S-Bahn station, and bicycles can be taken along free of charge when combining the two. Check the current rules for taking bicycles on board before travelling. This means you can plan your route using either the signposted circular route or individual sections.

Historic trails with five routes and 41 information boards

The Rodgau Historic Trails mark historically significant sites with 41 uniformly designed information boards. Together, the sites form a 15-kilometre chain made up of five trails. Depending on your mode of transport, you can explore the trails individually or in full, on foot or by bicycle. The individual trails and the complete chain offer different options, so you do not have to commit to just one way of exploring.

Texts, pictures and maps provide detailed information about the history and location of each site. The trails were created for local residents and history enthusiasts from further afield. Unlike the Rodgau Circular Route, the focus here is not on the landscape of a longer circuit, but on the historical significance of sites at their respective locations. If you would like to include local history in your travel plans, you can choose between individual trails and the complete chain.

Parks, lido and special sites

Amberpark is on the edge of Jügesheim’s new development area, on Marienbader Allee. Its features include naturalistic flowering meadows and a garden where visitors can pick and eat fruit. In Dudenhofen, Lutherpark is located by the Rodau River and also has a playground. These two places offer something different from the circular and historic trails: Amberpark combines meadows with a garden where visitors can pick and eat fruit, while Lutherpark is described in terms of its location by the Rodau River and its playground.

Rodgau Lido has a water playground in its textile-bathing area. It operates seasonally, and this may change; check the latest information before visiting. This takes the seasonal limitation into account when planning, without assuming that the water playground is available year-round.

Another historic site is the Rollwald Camp Memorial. It is located in the former cemetery of the Rollwald penal camp, in a park-like setting. The Rochus Church in Rodgau is considered a historic gem, with art treasures. It replaced the Rochus Chapel at the end of the 19th century; the chapel had already been consecrated in 1692. The church underwent extensive renovation and expansion in the late 1970s. This sequence of events makes the building’s history tangible without making any claims about current access to its interior.
