Offenbach am Main: Discover the Weather Park, museums and trails
Accommodation in Offenbach am Main
Offenbach am Main offers reasons to visit related to weather and climate, book and typographic arts, leather culture, club history, and trails through green spaces. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider which of these interests will shape your stay. The places and activities range from interactive weather experiences to collections and routes for hiking, running and cycling.
Experience weather and climate
The Weather Park is a public park dedicated to weather and climate. Its educational and experiential trail includes 15 stations where weather phenomena are explained and illustrated. At the visitor centre, guests can use interactive stations to create a tornado in a column of water, make a personal rainbow glow, or create visual and sound effects of weather conditions such as storms and thunderstorms. Weather Park guides regularly offer family and themed tours about weather and climate.
SCAPE° also conveys connections between weather, climate and change. This interactive exhibition and experience space uses hands-on stations, workshops and events. Offenbach therefore offers different ways to explore the subject: the Weather Park features an educational trail and stations in the visitor centre, while SCAPE° complements the topic with exhibitions and events.
Museums and creative activities
The German Leather Museum has more than 30,000 objects. They document the global use and cultural-historical significance of leather and related materials—from prehistoric times to the present day. At media tables, visitors can feel cowhide, parchment and sharkskin, as well as explore vegan and recyclable materials such as tinder fungus and Piñatex®. Information about the special characteristics of the materials is available.
The museum offers public guided tours of all exhibitions, as well as private tours on request. Public tours take place on selected Sundays at 3 p.m. and on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Workshops offer the opportunity to engage creatively with the museum’s themes. As specific dates may change, it is a good idea to check the current schedule before your visit.
The Klingspor Museum brings international book and typographic art to life. The permanent exhibition in the historic part of the building extends from the ground floor to the attic and offers insight into the museum’s history, which is connected to the type foundry of brothers Karl and Wilhelm Klingspor. The six collection focuses are type, private press printing, the painter’s book, the artist’s book, illustration and posters.
If you would like to do more than explore printmaking and try the techniques yourself, the printmaking workshop at Bernardbau offers introductory courses in various printmaking processes. These include the correct and safe use of the necessary presses and tools, which participants can then use for their own projects. Course availability may vary, so it is a good idea to check dates in advance.
The Kickers Fan Museum offers another glimpse of the city: since March 2007, it has been the home of fans of Offenbacher Kickers 1901 e. V. What began as a private collection developed into a permanent exhibition with more than 5,000 objects.
Green Ring and weekly market
The Green Ring from Main to Main encircles the more densely built-up area of central Offenbach to the west, south and east. As a continuous green corridor, it connects valleys running towards the Main, parks near the city and open spaces. The route is directly accessible from large parts of the city and has a continuous network of walking and cycling paths for hikes, runs and bike rides.
For a different impression of everyday life in Offenbach, visit the weekly market at Wilhelmsplatz. Fruit, vegetables, cakes, delicacies and other goods are sold there on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. As market hours may change, check the schedule before your visit. The combination of weather and climate activities, museums, creative courses and the Green Ring makes it easy to choose the focus of your trip based on your own interests.
