Immenhausen offers several points of interest for a trip focused on city history, glass and hiking trails. A city wall encloses the historic town center; information panels in the Hufeisenturm provide details about the city’s history and urban renewal. The glass museum explores glassware and its design. Two Eco Paths have their own distinct focuses: one explores settlement history around the Ahlberg, while the other leads to former mining sites. This makes it possible to plan your visit according to your interests and the length of the route.

City History in the Historic Town Center

A city wall approximately 3 km long, dating from the 13th century, forms a ring around Immenhausen’s historic town center. Its length, date and course provide different points of reference: the wall dates from the 13th century, forms a ring and surrounds the historic center. This puts the city’s history in the spotlight before the Hufeisenturm offers a closer look at other aspects of urban development.

The Hufeisenturm opened to visitors in June 2004. Inside, information panels describe the city’s history and urban renewal. Keys can be collected from the town hall or the glass museum during their opening hours. Plan your visit around the opening hours of these locations. The tower’s information panels and the city wall offer different perspectives: one focuses on city history and urban renewal, the other on the ring-shaped layout of the historic town center.

Glass Design from Art Nouveau to the Present

The permanent exhibitions at the Immenhausen Glass Museum trace the history of glassware from Art Nouveau to the present day. Goblets, vases, bowls and other decorative and household glass illustrate the development of glass design from 1890 to today. The glass on display highlights a range of uses: the collection includes not only goblets, but also vessels and objects for decoration and household use. This gives you a distinct focus on design and glassware to explore alongside city history and hiking trails when planning your trip.

Eco Paths by Theme and Length

Established in 2007, the Eco Path Cultural History of Ahlberg-Mariendorf is approximately 4.5 km long and explores more than 2,000 years of settlement history around the Ahlberg. The Eco Path Mining in Holzhausen Reinhardswald has a different focus: its three sections can be hiked from the “Roter Stock” or “Bürgerhaus” parking lots in Holzhausen. This trail is approximately 17.2 km long in total and leads to the former mining sites on Gahrenberg, Kleeberg and Osterberg.

The themes differ too: the Cultural History trail focuses on settlement history around the Ahlberg, while the Mining trail visits former mining sites. Its paths run through the landscape of the southern Reinhardswald, are considered easy to hike and have only gentle inclines. Check current parking and trail conditions before setting out.

More to Explore in the Greater Kassel Travel Destination

The greater Kassel travel destination offers additional landscapes and cultural themes. Reinhardswald Nature Park is characterized by centuries-old pollarded oaks, extensive beech and spruce forests, river valleys and natural stream landscapes. The scenery also includes limestone grasslands with juniper and orchids. These natural attractions differ from Immenhausen’s local themes of city history, glass design and mining history.

The German Fairy Tale Route also runs through the district of Kassel, passing sites such as Sababurg Castle and Trendelburg Castle, with its Rapunzel Tower. The Fairy Tale Route thus offers another cultural point of interest in the greater Kassel travel destination. If you’re looking for a hotel in Immenhausen, these distinct themes can help you decide which interests to focus on during your trip.
