Otzberg combines a variety of hiking routes with scenic views and historic buildings. When planning, you can compare the stated route lengths and approximate walking times. Compare hiking trails by length and time
Local trails vary considerably in length and approximate time required. The Märkerwald Trail is 4.5 kilometers long and takes about 1.5 hours. It starts and ends at the Schmelzmühle in Ober-Klingen. The 6.5-kilometer Otzberg Trail (NK1) also takes around two hours and starts and ends at the Hollergraben hiking car park.
- The Ohmbuckel Trail (NK2): 12.5 kilometers, about 3.5 hours; starts and ends at the sports hall in Nieder-Klingen.
- The Rondel Trail: 6.9 kilometers, about 2.25 hours; starts and ends at the Bettelmannsbuche in Ober-Nauses.

The times are approximate and help you gauge how long each route will take. The Märkerwald Trail and Otzberg Trail take about one and a half and two hours, respectively, while the Sparkassen Jubilee Trail requires considerably more time, at around seven and a half hours. The endpoints also vary, from the Schmelzmühle and Hollergraben to the town hall in Lengfeld. When choosing a route, consider which distance and time commitment best fit your plans.
Views from the Weiße Rübe
The Weiße Rübe is the keep of Veste Otzberg. From here, the view stretches across the Odenwald, the Bergstraße, and the Rhine-Main region. The viewpoint offers something different from the hiking routes: rather than a tour with a specified length, the focus here is on views across several landscapes.
Historic buildings in Habitzheim
Habitzheim’s historic buildings include a castle built around 1500 and two churches: the Protestant church dating from 1741 and the Catholic Church of St. Cyriacus dating from 1858. Their different dates provide an overview of the district’s architectural history. The Habitzheim estate also has historical significance: it was established on the site of the former castle. The zu Löwenstein family still lives on and manages the estate today.
Hollergraben barbecue area
The Hollergraben barbecue area is in the Nieder-Klingen district. The Nieder-Klingen-Aktiv e.V. association maintains and cares for the site; rentals are also handled by the association. So if you’d like to include the barbecue area in your plans, the association is the point of contact for rentals.
