Erzhausen brings together several different themes for trip planning: local history at the village museum and historic sites, small cultural events, the Erzhausen sauna and a family cycling route. By rail, the town is connected to the Frankfurt–Darmstadt corridor by S-Bahn. The Darmstadt-Dieburg district encompasses six natural regions: the Hessian Rhine Plain, the Lower Main Plain, the Messel Hills, the Reinheim Hills, the Vorderer Odenwald and the Sandstone Odenwald. In the wider travel destination of Darmstadt-Dieburg, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Messel Pit documents the history of the Earth 47 million years ago through a wide variety of uniquely preserved fossils.

Village Museum and Traces of Local History

The Erzhausen Village Museum is housed in the Schiller School, built in 1863. Its collection consists mainly of exhibits from the past two centuries. Items on display include a historic pharmacy, Erich Lotz’s former shoemaker’s workshop, school objects, toys and musical instruments, as well as maps, building plans, old photographs and postcards. The collection thus spans everything from crafts and schooling to maps and visual records. Visitors interested in local history and everyday life in the past will find a range of points of interest in the collection. Check the current opening hours before your visit.

Different historical periods can also be encountered beyond the collection. Bronze Age burial mounds, around 3,500 years old, are located in Sensfelder Tanne. Erzhausen’s Protestant church took its present form in 1565, on the foundations of the old chapel; the choir and sacristy were added at that time. Archaeological traces and the development of a church building thus offer two distinct perspectives on local history.

Cultural Events and Sauna

The KuK art and culture initiative organizes small events at special venues in Erzhausen, including readings, concerts, cabaret and exhibitions. Preference is given to artists from Erzhausen or the surrounding region. If you would like to attend a specific event, check the dates for your travel period.

Another option is the Erzhausen sauna. It offers five saunas, three swimming pools, infrared cabins, a steam bath and experience showers. Check current operating information before your visit.

S-Bahn and Cycling Route as Planning Anchors

Erzhausen has good rail connections along the Frankfurt–Darmstadt corridor via the S-Bahn. If you are planning specific connections for your stay, check the current timetable. At the station, the municipality of Erzhausen provides residents with a lockable bicycle box for secure, weather-protected bicycle storage.

The family cycling route in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district runs from Erzhausen to Seeheim-Jugenheim and is about 40 kilometers long. You can use this approximate distance when planning your ride and check the route in advance.
