Rimbach lies in the Weschnitz depression in the Vorderer Odenwald, with the Tromm and Juhöhe hills framing the municipality. Hedgerows and extensive orchard meadows run through the open landscape. The different trail themes can help guide your choice of hotel: marked circular hiking trails, an art trail, a fruit-tree nature trail, a historic Geopark trail and a cycle route. This lets you decide whether you would mainly like to hike during your stay, discover the orchard meadows or explore the region by bike.

Landscape around Rimbach

The forests on the slopes of the Tromm, shaped by boulders, are considered typical and protected landscape features. A large part of the Tromm forest is protected under the European Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive. Some ecologically valuable areas around Rimbach are also protected, including areas where orchids grow. Across the wider low mountain range, a finely branched network of waterways and elevations between 200 and 600 metres shape the landscape. This context adds to the picture of the open countryside with its hedgerows and orchard meadows. In the Bergstraße district, gentle vineyards meet the Odenwald.

Hiking trails with different focuses

Rimbach and its districts have several marked circular hiking trails that start at five nature park car parks. The Rimbach Art Trail begins at the “Tränke” nature park car park outside Rimbach and runs for 941 metres towards Jungholzhöhe. At this length, it is shorter than the Rimbach-Albersbach Fruit-Tree Nature Trail, which covers 2.1 kilometres and takes about an hour. The nature trail’s length also gives you a rough indication of how long it takes. Trail availability, routes and access points may change, so check local conditions before setting out.

Discover orchard meadows and local history

The Rimbach-Albersbach Fruit-Tree Nature Trail is designed for experiencing, discovering, learning and relaxing in the orchard-meadow landscape. It introduces the area’s ecological features and its animal and plant life, and shares knowledge about growing fruit trees in the Odenwald. Topics also include when fruit is ready to harvest and eat, as well as how different varieties are used: Goldparmäne, Gellert’s pear, Hauszwetschge plum and Nancy Mirabelle.

The Historic Geopark Trail through Rimbach offers a different perspective on local agriculture. Twenty-one information boards at notable places and buildings cover meadows, pastures and arable farming, as well as fruit and nut trees and forests. By comparison, the fruit-tree nature trail focuses in greater depth on the ecological features of orchard meadows and fruit growing, while the historic trail explores several agricultural landscape features.

Planning by bike and train

The Weschnitz Valley–Überwald Cycle Route connects the Bergstraße with the Odenwald and passes the railway stations in Birkenau, Mörlenbach, Rimbach and Fürth. This makes it possible to start or end your journey by train in the Weschnitz Valley. If you plan to combine cycling and train travel, check the timetables and route information before setting out.
