When planning a trip to Bebersee, three themes go hand in hand: its setting on Lake Bebersee, surrounded by forest; recurring cultural events; and a historical connection along the village street. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether the natural surroundings, a specific cultural event or the village’s history will shape your stay. These themes offer different starting points for your decision.

Landscape around Lake Bebersee

Bebersee lies on Lake Bebersee within the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. Forests and other lakes surround the village. Its connection with nature is therefore a lasting feature of Bebersee, while cultural events offer specific additional reasons to visit. If the landscape is your main consideration, the lake, forest and biosphere reserve are the key points of reference; cultural events can be considered separately.

Chamber music and open studios

The Bebersee Festival is an annual chamber music festival featuring internationally renowned artists. The concerts take place against the backdrop of former military architecture and the surrounding landscape of the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. Dates and programmes change; check the latest details if you would like to plan your trip around a concert.

Artists also have a presence in Bebersee. An annual open studios day takes place in May and attracts visitors. May is therefore a seasonal reference point for this art event; the festival, in turn, focuses on chamber music. When planning your stay, you can take these different cultural themes into account and check the dates of the respective events.

Village history and surviving lime trees

Bebersee developed as a colonist village. The lime trees planted in 1750 along the village street have survived to this day. The village’s development and a specific historic planting thus sit side by side. For your travel plans, this offers a different emphasis from the lake and forest: this detail brings the village’s history into focus.

The timing of your visit can also help guide your choice: the lake, forest and surviving lime trees are permanent features, while the festival and open studios day are tied to their event dates. This distinguishes a stay focused on the landscape from one planned around a specific cultural event.

Templin: town walls and historic buildings

The wider destination of Templin offers a distinct historical focus shaped by its urban character. Templin’s medieval fieldstone wall is 1,735 metres long and up to seven metres high. You can stroll along the restored fortifications, which include three Gothic brick gates, two towers and 47 Wiekhäuser (defensive houses). Templin’s town fortifications are therefore very different from Bebersee’s village and landscape themes.

The Prenzlau Gate is Templin’s newest and most complete brick gate. The historic gate brings Templin’s more than 750-year history to life. If you are interested in the old town and its archaeological finds, you can follow the archaeological town trail: it passes, among other places, the market square and church square, as well as the town wall. Ten information panels provide background on the respective finds.

The small St. George’s Chapel in Templin also dates from the 14th century and was built in the Brick Gothic style. Inside is a wooden sculpture from the 16th century depicting the patron saint George on horseback, in full armour and fighting the dragon. The chapel thus adds another aspect of Templin’s architectural and artistic history to the town’s fortifications.
