Wollin is a destination where natural surroundings and village history each have their own emphasis. The Baruth Glacial Valley borders the village; in the center, a listed Protestant church shapes the village’s appearance. This places landscape and architectural history at the heart of planning a stay.

Landscape and Nature

Extensive pine forests, pastures, and fields shape Wollin’s landscape. Fläming streams and a variety of bird species are also among its characteristic features. Wild boar, red deer, and fallow deer occur in the landscape. The soil conditions allow rye, potatoes, and asparagus to be grown. Alongside forests and waterways, agricultural land and potential crops thus emerge as distinct aspects of the landscape.

The Rummeln are narrow dry valleys formed by meltwater during the Ice Age. They create a distinct contrast with the Fläming streams: dry, narrow landforms lie alongside characteristic waterways. Nature enthusiasts can therefore find a range of sights, from valleys shaped by the Ice Age to streams.

Wollin in the Fläming and Potsdam-Mittelmark

Wollin is considered a starting point for excursions or hikes in the Fläming. The International Art Hiking Trail connects Bad Belzig and Wiesenburg/Mark via two routes totaling 38 kilometers. In the broader destination of Potsdam-Mittelmark, Hoher Fläming Nature Park has a well-developed network of cycling and hiking trails. In the north of the nature park are lowland meadows; to the south, the terrain is hilly and wooded. Regional orientation thus ranges from a named hiking route to the nature park’s varied landscapes. At 148 kilometers, the Castle Hiking Trail is considerably longer; it runs through the entire Hoher Fläming Nature Park and connects four castles in the region.

Village Church and Puffs Mill

The listed Protestant village church is a defining feature of the village center. Its style is restrained Prussian Baroque; it was built in 1751 as a Baroque-style stucco building. Its furnishings include a pulpit altar wall, pastors’ pews, and a horseshoe gallery. The year of construction and stucco building method provide a sense of the church’s history and architecture, while its furnishings identify specific features of the building.

Puffs Mill is considered the oldest mill in the area and is a protected monument. The mill, located near Wollin, is powered by the Verlorenwasser stream. The church and mill also differ in their location: the church defines the village center, while the mill is near Wollin and connected to the stream.

Getting There and Staying

Wollin is about one kilometer from an exit on the A2 Berlin–Hanover motorway. This distance provides a practical reference for travel planning alongside the landscape and cultural attractions. When choosing the focus of your stay, you can compare the natural surroundings with local history: forests, dry valleys, and Fläming streams on one hand, and the church and mill on the other.
