Langewahl – between the Spree and the Dubrow Hills
Accommodation in Langewahl
Langewahl lies between the Spree and the Dubrow Hills. Forests, meadows, and the Spree shape the local landscape. As you plan your trip, you can combine hiking routes to the Oster Spring with wooded hills and a history dating back to its founding as a settlement village. The village also has a small church.
Landscape and hiking
Numerous hiking routes lead through the gently rolling, wooded Dubrow Hills towards the Oster Spring. Wooden steps also lead from the spring grounds towards the Dubrow Hills. If you plan to use the steps, check their local condition beforehand. At the spring grounds, the site invites hikers to pause, rest, and refresh themselves. The water from the Oster Spring flows eastwards and collects in a pond.
The trees in the Dubrow Hills include pines, beeches, oaks, larches, and Douglas firs. Together with the gently rolling, wooded hills, these trees give the landscape a distinctive shape. For hikers, both the route towards the Oster Spring and the wooded character of the hills are part of the experience; the spring itself is also defined by its eastward-flowing water and the pond.
Village history and Streitberg
Langewahl was founded in 1772 under Frederick II as a settlement village. The small village church is another lasting part of the local heritage. There is also a story about the choice of name: it links the name Langewahl to Benjamin Winkelmann, who is said to have taken a long time to choose a name for the village. A dated founding event, a religious landmark, and a local story about the name thus offer different ways to explore the village’s history.
Langewahl’s district of Streitberg adds its own character. Streitberg is associated with water-based activities and fishing; since October 2009, the Streitberg distillery has processed local fruit there. So, alongside hiking and village history, water-based activities and local fruit processing are also among the themes associated with Langewahl.
