Beeskow offers three themes to help you plan your trip: the historic town center, the castle on the Spree island and experiences along the Spree. The town wall and St. Mary’s Church provide historical points of reference, the castle brings together museums and events, and the waterside landscape takes center stage around the river, lock and marinas. Depending on whether you are interested in history, cultural events or activities on the water, you can give your stay a different focus.

Town Wall and Historic Center

Beeskow’s town center is surrounded on three sides by a largely restored town wall. A path along the wall leads to the Oldest House, St. Mary’s Church and Beeskow Castle. The town fortifications are therefore not just a single structure, but part of a route connecting several historic sites. Construction of St. Mary’s Church began between 1370 and 1380. This date adds a specific historical reference to the orientation provided by the route along the wall. If you want to get to know Beeskow through its historic center, the wall, church and castle provide clear points of reference.

Beeskow Castle: Museums, Events and Views

The historic Beeskow Castle, dating from the 13th century, stands in the middle of the Spree island. Today, it houses the museum oder-spree and the Music Museum; there is also a gallery and event halls. The castle courtyard hosts recurring annual events, including summer theater, castle festivals and the Musiktheaterfestival Oper Oder Spree. The 30-meter-high keep offers views of the town and the Spree landscape around Beeskow. The castle thus brings together museums, events and views as different reasons to visit. If a particular theater or festival event is important to your trip, check the dates for your travel period in advance.

The Spree as a Travel Destination in Its Own Right

Around the Spree island, the lock and Beeskow’s marinas, visitors can experience the waterside landscape on boat trips, by paddling or during a stay by the river. Canoe trips on the Spree can start directly at Spreepark Beeskow. This gives you a specific starting point for a canoe trip; boat trips and time by the river offer different experiences. You can choose your focus based on whether you would rather be out on the water or enjoy the riverside landscape.

More to Explore in the Oder-Spree Destination

The wider Oder-Spree destination includes other places with their own highlights. In Bad Saarow, the Lesser Promenade runs for about 1.5 kilometers along the lakeshore, from Kurpark to Fontanepark. In Neuzelle, the five-hectare Baroque garden was restored according to original plans from the 1758 Stiftsatlas; it features Baroque paths, water features and a terraced layout. The Oder-Spree region therefore offers a lakeside promenade and a historic garden alongside Beeskow’s themes of the town wall, castle and Spree.

Choosing a Hotel for Your Trip

Plan your trip around your preferred focus and travel dates. If an event is the deciding factor, check its date; if you plan to visit the keep, check the current visitor information. This lets you factor event dates and visits into your plans before choosing a hotel.
