Nature and Moorland in Raddusch

Raddusch is located in the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. The 13.5-kilometer moorland trail runs through a nature reserve and explains different types of moor, the plant and animal life, and how the moorland formed. You can explore it on foot or by bicycle. The route combines exercise with a close-up look at the moorland landscape and its habitats. The moorland trail is connected to the starting points at Naturhafen Raddusch, Dubkow-Mühle and Boblitz. In addition, cycling routes lead from Raddusch in every direction—a helpful guide for anyone planning a bike tour based on the direction they want to travel.

Waterways and Route Lengths

The developed Naturkahnfährhafen in Raddusch is a starting point for punt boat trips into the Spreewald. The nature harbor also serves as a starting point for canoe trips and other excursions. This gives you a choice of different ways to experience the water: a punt boat trip takes you into the Spreewald, while a canoe trip starts at the nature harbor.

Another route option is the paved loop around Lake Gräbendorfer See. It is about nine kilometers long and can be explored by bicycle or on foot. In terms of length, it is shorter than the 13.5-kilometer moorland trail. This lets you include two different distances in your personal excursion plans while keeping your choice of how to get around in mind.

Architecture and Village History

The Wendish-German Twin Church consists of two churches that stand directly side by side, sharing a sacristy and a church tower. It also serves as a cultural venue with a museum-like character and hosts exhibitions, concerts and theater performances. Architecture and cultural uses stand side by side here.

The local history room in Raddusch offers another way to explore the village’s past. Its authentically furnished rooms depict village life around 1900. Traditional occupations documented there include boatbuilding, blacksmithing, beekeeping, tailoring, shoemaking and farming. While the Twin Church, with its shared building structure and cultural events, focuses on architecture, the local history room turns the spotlight on the living spaces and working lives of the past.

Oberspreewald-Lausitz on a Larger Scale

Looking at the wider destination of Oberspreewald-Lausitz opens up further perspectives for nature and cycling trips. In the southern part of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, the flooding of former open-cast mines is creating a waterscape with more than 20 artificial lakes: the Lusatian Lakeland. Hiking routes in the district range from 4 to 32 kilometers. Cycling routes start at 40 kilometers; these include self-guided and guided multi-day tours with good places to rest and eat along the way. More than 580 kilometers of signposted cycling routes connect the regions between the Spreewald and the Kmehlener Berge, linking southern Brandenburg with Saxony and northern Brandenburg across regional boundaries.
