The Luckaitztal Brick Tower, the Buchwäldchen-Muckwar pond landscape and renovated half-timbered houses give Luckaitztal several distinct attractions for a stay. There are also hiking and cycling trails through wooded, hilly countryside, as well as buckwheat pancakes, a regional speciality. You can plan your days around nature, outdoor activities, local architecture or regional cuisine.

Brick Tower and Trails

The viewing platform of the Luckaitztal Brick Tower is 38 metres above the forest floor. The tower can only be reached on foot. The shortest route starts at the rest area near Weißag; marked trails also lead from Luckaitztal station to the tower. This gives you two distinct starting points for the walk: the rest area for the shortest route and the station for marked trails. Luckaitztal lies on a spur of the Niederlausitz Ridge, known as the Calau Switzerland. Together with its wooded, hilly landscape, this setting shapes the character of the area.

Buchwäldchen-Muckwar Pond Landscape

In Buchwäldchen, the Buchwäldchen-Muckwar pond landscape is protected as an FFH conservation area. It comprises nine ponds as well as small streams and ditches. The ponds provide habitats for fire-bellied toads, tree frogs, dragonflies, grass snakes and nesting waterbirds. Here, the focus is on bodies of water and their habitats, while the brick tower and its viewing platform offer a different attraction. You can choose your activities according to your interests, weighing up a viewpoint against a protected natural area with diverse habitats.

Cycling Routes and Buildings Made of Fieldstone

Luckaitztal and neighbouring Bronkow have hiking and cycling trails, and the landscape is wooded and hilly. One specific landmark for cyclists is the Fuchsmühle mill, located right on the cycling route between Zwietow and Weißag. The fieldstone buildings also give the villages a character of their own: particularly many have been preserved and renovated by their owners in Gosda, Zwietow and Weißag. Zwietow and Weißag are therefore associated both with the cycling route mentioned above and with the fieldstone buildings. Gosda adds another village with a particularly large number of preserved and renovated buildings of this type.

Buckwheat Pancakes and Regional Tradition

Restaurants in Gosda-Weißag and Zwietow serve buckwheat pancakes as a regional speciality. Check the restaurants’ opening hours before visiting. The culinary picture also includes a tradition in the southern part of the nature park: buckwheat was traditionally grown and milled in watermills in the local pancake villages. These pancakes add a regional food experience to your travel plans, distinct from the nature and trail options.

Getting Here by Train

Regional rail line 24 connects to Luckaitztal station. If travelling by public transport from Berlin Central Station, the RE7 towards Senftenberg is another option for reaching Luckaitztal. Marked trails to the brick tower also start at Luckaitztal station; the tower itself can only be reached on foot. Check train connections and service information before travelling. This lets you plan your journey and the walk to the tower together without confusing the different access points.

Cycling routes start at 40 kilometres, and the options also include self-guided or guided multi-day tours with good places to stop and eat. These tours offer a broader planning framework than the local trails in Luckaitztal. The different lengths and formats help you distinguish a day hike in the district from a multi-day cycling tour, while the local nature attractions provide the focus for a visit to Luckaitztal.
