Neubeuern combines a historic town center with culture, lakeside recreation and routes for walking and cycling. When choosing a hotel, you can consider whether the market square and exhibitions, swimming or outdoor activities should take priority on your trip. Transport links and parking can also be factored into your plans.

Historic Market Square and Culture

Neubeuern’s historic market square is accessible through two gates: the Salzburger Tor to the southeast and the Münchner Tor to the northwest. The rows of houses around the square are decorated with colorful Lüftlmalerei murals. Visitors interested in historic townscapes will find both the named gate entrances and the brightly decorated rows of houses as distinctive features of the market square.

The museum in the Kulturhaus im Markt features exhibitions on shipping on the River Inn, the Neubeuern choir community under Enoch zu Guttenberg, Neubeuern Castle and the V.T.E.V. “Edelweiß” Neubeuern. A fossil exhibition covers an additional topic. The museum thus presents natural history alongside exhibitions on shipping, the choir community and local club life. Museum visit arrangements may vary by season; check the current visiting options in advance.

In the same Kulturhaus, the Galerie am Markt regularly presents contemporary art by artists who live in Neubeuern as well as guest artists. The museum and gallery have different focuses: the museum covers the specified topics of nature, shipping and local cultural life, while the gallery focuses on contemporary art.

Neubeuern Lake and Hiking Trails

Neubeuern Lake offers families the chance to bathe and swim, and there is a large sunbathing lawn. Two beach volleyball courts add to the leisure options: one is intended for children and the other for adults. The lake offers water activities, relaxation on the sunbathing lawn and beach volleyball. Seasonal operations may vary; check the current conditions before your visit.

The hiking options can also be distinguished by their stated features. Wolfsschlucht is a stop on the Neubeuern Schiffleut hiking trail. A circular hike of around two hours around Neubeuern Castle leads, among other places, to the remains of Althaus Castle. The approximate duration and named destination of this route can help you estimate the time needed for your plans. The Inn Cycle Path passes by Neubeuern and offers another point of reference for planning a cycling trip.

Getting There and Parking

Neubeuern can be reached on the BRB Chiemgau-Inntal via the Rosenheim or Raubling railway stations; bus routes 9490 and 9572 also serve Neubeuern. Check current connections before traveling, as transport information can change. For travel by car, free parking is available at the P1 municipal car park next to the town hall at SchlossstraĂźe 4. The car park is about 200 meters from the historic market square. Local parking conditions may change, so it is worth checking before you arrive.

In the Broader Rosenheim Destination

The broader Rosenheim destination offers further attractions in Amerang. The museum in Amerang Castle provides insights into the castle’s architecture and the history of the noble family. The Amerang Farmhouse Museum run by the District of Upper Bavaria features farmhouses, craft buildings and technical installations from the Chiemgau region. The Amerang Open-Air Museum offers individual guided tours and group options; arrangements may need to be made in advance, and visitor services may change.

Between Amerang and Halfing, the Moorland Educational Trail, created in 2010, explains how the moorland formed after the Ice Age and introduces the local flora and fauna. The topics are therefore distinct: in Neubeuern, the market square, lake and local exhibitions are among the main attractions; the broader Rosenheim destination also includes Amerang Castle, the farmhouse museum and the moorland.
