Ramerberg can be considered from three perspectives when planning a trip: relaxation on paths through the Inn floodplains, the parish church and its architectural history, and the Wasserburg circular cycling route, which passes through the town. These topics appeal to different interests. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider whether nature, architecture or a cycling trip should shape your stay.

Relaxation in the Inn floodplains

The paths through the Inn floodplains and the nature reserve there in Ramerberg invite you to relax. This connection with nature differs from the architectural history of the parish church and the longer circular cycling tour. When planning your stay, you can weigh up the Inn floodplains as a focus for outdoor relaxation alongside cultural or cycling interests.

The parish church and its architectural history

Ramerberg Parish Church was formerly a subsidiary church of Attel Abbey. Its massive tower is Romanesque; the chancel and nave were altered in the 15th century using Romanesque architectural elements. As a pilgrimage church dedicated to Saint Leonhard, it gained some significance in the late Middle Ages. For architectural purposes, it is helpful to distinguish between the tower and the chancel and nave: the tower is Romanesque, while the other two parts of the building were altered in the 15th century incorporating Romanesque elements. The church thus reflects several construction phases. Its former connection to the abbey and its role as a pilgrimage church add religious and historical context to its architectural history.

The Wasserburg circular cycling route

The Wasserburg circular cycling route is 110 kilometres long. It runs from Wasserburg am Inn through several towns to Rott am Inn and then back to Wasserburg via Ramerberg. Ramerberg is therefore one section of the loop; the start and finish are in Wasserburg am Inn. The 110 kilometres refer to the entire circular route. The route is mostly paved, very well signposted in both directions and has only moderate climbs. It follows minor roads or designated cycle paths through a landscape shaped by farming and Upper Bavarian towns. The circular route is very suitable for families. For your planning, the tour is therefore a cycling option in its own right alongside the relaxation paths and the town’s historical focus. Check local route conditions before setting off.

More topics in the wider Rosenheim destination

In the wider Rosenheim destination, Amerang offers additional cultural and natural highlights. The Museum at Amerang Castle provides insights into the castle’s architecture and the history of the noble family. The Amerang Farmhouse Museum run by the District of Upper Bavaria showcases farmhouses, craft buildings and technical installations from the Chiemgau region. The topics differ in focus: one centres on the castle and the history of the nobility, while the other focuses on rural buildings, crafts and technology.

The Amerang Open-Air Museum offers individual guided tours and group activities. As visitor offerings may change, check in advance which formats are currently available; groups may need to make arrangements beforehand. The moor nature trail, established in 2010 between Amerang and Halfing, is also in the wider Rosenheim destination. It explains how the moorland landscape formed after the Ice Age, as well as the native animal and plant life. This natural-history focus complements the museum exhibits.
