When choosing what to do, it helps to consider whether you are most interested in the views, a cycling tour or a look at how beer is made.

Aircraft and the apron from different perspectives

The 28-metre-high Visitors’ Hill offers views of the runways, aircraft taking off and landing, and activity on the apron. The observation terrace also offers views of the apron and runways, as well as the satellite building. To compare the views: from Visitors’ Hill, you can also see aircraft taking off and landing, while the observation terrace adds a view of the satellite building.

The Airport Live Tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at airport operations, as well as close-up views of large aircraft and activity on the apron. It lasts about 60 minutes, plus the security check. Allow for this additional time when planning, and check the latest tour details before your visit, as the offerings and operational procedures may change.

Cycling between airport grounds and a protected area

The environmental cycling route is a circular route of approximately 19 kilometres along Nordallee, the aprons and the southern runway. It runs mostly on gravel and paved roads. When planning your ride, you can therefore take into account both the approximate distance and the changes in surface.

At various stops along the environmental cycling route, signs with QR codes link to background information on the airport website. This lets you combine your ride with information about the airport. The meadows around the runways are part of the “Northern Erdinger Moos” European Special Protection Area; this protected-area designation applies to these meadows.

Another regional cycling route is the “Ring of Regions”: it passes through the airport and Oberding before returning to Erding. So, alongside the circular route at the airport, there is also a route connecting these places.

Visitors Park and getting there

Visitors Park has a newly redesigned 18-hole facility that combines fun with forward-looking ideas. The themed playground features a large “Tower Slide”. Take S-Bahn lines S1 or S8 to the “Besucherpark” stop to reach Visitors Park; check the timetable for your travel date.

Airbräu: brewing culture at the airport

Since 1999, Airbräu has brewed beer right at Munich Airport in accordance with the German Purity Law. The Airbräu restaurant serves Bavarian specialities and freshly brewed beer in a traditional tavern atmosphere. The brewery tour explains how beer is brewed from four ingredients and takes you from the copper brewing kettles to the storage cellars. The restaurant and tour have different focuses: food and freshly brewed beer alongside insights into the ingredients and brewing process. When planning your trip, you can weigh up whether you would like to include views, cycling or brewing culture in your stay.
