Discover Hohenbrunn
Accommodation in Hohenbrunn
Hohenbrunn lies on a clearing surrounded by a belt of protected forest. The woodland landscape shapes the character of the place. At the same time, the municipality lies between Munich and the Bavarian Oberland; lakes and local mountains are nearby. Hohenbrunn thus combines a regional connection to Munich with a nature theme that comes to life on the local circular hiking trail.
Getting here and districts
S-Bahn and bus services connect Hohenbrunn with Munich and surrounding municipalities. Ottobrunn station serves Riemerling; Hohenbrunn Dorf and the Grasbrunner Weg settlement are served by Hohenbrunn station, while the Luitpoldsiedlung is served by Wächterhof station. Check current timetables and connections before travelling, as transport services and station assignments can change. Hohenbrunn is divided into several districts, some of which are relatively remote. When planning your journey, the specific destination within the municipality is therefore a useful point of reference.
Hiking in the protected forest
The Hohenbrunn circular hiking trail follows well-marked paths through the forest and combines experiencing nature, exercise and playful learning. The trail is intended for families, children, hikers and cycling hikers. Around 23 interactive stations share information about the forest and invite visitors to take part.
There are two loops to choose from: the shorter route is about 4.5 kilometres long, and the longer one about 8.5 kilometres. The longer loop is therefore almost twice as long as the shorter one; this difference can help you choose the distance you want to cover. Check the details before your hike, as they may change if the circular trail is modified.
Local history and architecture
Written historical references to Hohenbrunn date from 780 and 814; 814 is considered the year the municipality was founded. The village church of Saint Stephen was built in the late Gothic style. Its tower was topped with a Baroque onion dome in 1680. The church thus brings together late Gothic architecture and a feature added later in the Baroque period.
A municipal article from 2024 describes the Bauernmöbelmuseum (Farmhouse Furniture Museum) in the historic granary at Scharmerhof. The collection includes farmhouse furniture and household items from the 18th and 19th centuries. The focus on everyday rural culture thus sits alongside the religious architectural history of Saint Stephen’s Church.
MUNA, indoor swimming pool and Café O.K.
MUNA extends across Hohenbrunn and Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn. The 180-hectare military site contains 120 above-ground bunkers. The site is normally fenced off and closed to the public; guided tours are offered on selected days. Check in advance whether a tour is available on the day you plan to visit, as access rules and dates may change.
Riemerling indoor swimming pool is open to the public. Opening hours and temporary closures may change, so it is a good idea to check the latest visitor information before your visit. Café O.K. at the sports campus and Riemerling indoor swimming pool offers guests a small selection of drinks and food. Its offerings and operating arrangements may also change.
