Oberhaching offers a range of ways to shape your stay: historic architecture in Deisenhofen, a natural swimming pool in Furth, the Hachinger Valley countryside and a main cycling route toward Munich’s city limits. If you’re looking for a hotel in Oberhaching, you can plan your stay around these specific themes—for example, the town’s history, a day of swimming or a cycling tour.

Wagnerhaus and local history

The Wagnerhaus, built in the 18th century, stands on Hubertusplatz in Deisenhofen and bears the farm name “Zum Wagnerhanns.” It is the last surviving farmhouse in Oberhaching. A single-ridge farmhouse, a building type typical of the Bavarian Alpine Foreland, it combines living quarters, a stable and a barn under one roof, topped by a gently pitched gable roof. Its design clearly shows how living space and agricultural uses were accommodated together. The Wagnerhaus support association guides visitors through the historic rooms and regularly organizes cultural events and themed evenings.

For self-guided history tours, the free OHA app offers routes through the history of the municipality. The augmented reality app “Oberhaching Time Travel” takes a different approach: it overlays historical views onto buildings, squares and streets in the smartphone or tablet camera view at the locations themselves. These offer two distinct digital ways to explore local history—a self-guided tour and historical views overlaid at each location.

Church, local traditions and natural swimming pool

The tower of St. Stephen’s Parish Church is considered a landmark of Oberhaching. Every year on December 26, the Stephaniritt takes place in Deisenhofen: horses parade around St. Stephen’s Church, after which they are blessed. This annual event has a firmly established place in the winter events calendar.

Furth natural swimming pool has a 50-meter swimming pool, a non-swimmer pool, a diving area with a diving rock, a water trampoline and a water slide. It is supplied with spring water; no chemical additives are used, and the water is treated entirely biologically. This makes it easy to distinguish both the specific swimming and diving facilities and the method used to treat the water.

Countryside, cycling route and mobility

The Hachinger Valley is designated as a landscape conservation area within the municipalities of Oberhaching and Taufkirchen. The GleiĂźental Valley and its continuation, the Hachinger Bach Valley, form a landscape depression about 25 meters deep. It was formed by meltwater flowing from the Isar Glacier. The landscape can therefore be understood both in terms of its protected status and its geological origins.

The main cycling route from Sauerlach via Deisenhofen to Geiselgasteig is almost flat, largely free of crossings and usable year-round. It passes through Deisenhofen Forest to Deisenhofen S-Bahn station and then continues to Munich’s city limits. When planning your trip, both the route’s named locations and its described characteristics are relevant.

A mobility hub has been in place at Deisenhofen station since 2023. It connects buses, trains, cycling and car-sharing services, making it easier to switch from a car. If you’re planning to use different modes of transport for your journey, this connection is a useful point to consider.
