Discover Unterhaching
Accommodation in Unterhaching
Unterhaching combines an S-Bahn connection to Munich city centre with local nature and cultural attractions. Different details matter when planning your trip: trains run every ten minutes during peak times, seasonal access restrictions apply to parts of the meadows, and there is the history surrounding St. Korbinian.
Getting there and regional connections
During peak times, S-Bahn trains from Unterhaching to Munich city centre run every ten minutes. Timetables can change, so check the current service frequency for your travel dates. The Unterhaching mobility hub connects the S-Bahn, buses and taxis with an MVG bike station, electric car charging facilities, car sharing, and Park+Ride and Bike+Ride options. This gives you several different mobility services in one place.
Public transport connections are also useful for getting your bearings beyond the town: from Unterhaching, you can reach both Munich city centre and recreational areas in the mountains and by lakes. Unterhaching is also close to junctions for the A8 and A995 motorways. The best connection for you therefore also depends on whether you mainly want to visit destinations in Munich or excursion spots in the surrounding region.
Landscape park and cycling routes
Flower-rich, species-rich hay meadows shape the landscape of Hachinger Tal Landscape Park. They provide a habitat for many endangered animals, including ground-nesting skylarks and quail. At the same time, the meadows are the most important habitat for butterflies in Unterhaching.
An important note for visitors concerns the protection of these areas: parts of the meadows are off-limits from March to August to protect plants and animals. Check the local notices before your visit so you can plan around the areas where access is restricted.
Cycling is another aspect of mobility in Unterhaching. The cycling network is well developed and includes two bicycle streets and a connection to Munich’s RadlRing. If you are planning a specific bike tour, check the current route; the infrastructure may change as future projects are implemented.
St. Korbinian and local history
The history of the church in Unterhaching dates back to 1315. St. Korbinian is a Late Gothic choir-tower church built around 1300. The nave was extended around 1460, and the interior was redesigned in 1615. A choir-tower church is distinguished by the position of its tower above the chancel. From 1670, St. Korbinian was an important pilgrimage site—its construction history and later religious significance thus represent distinct historical points of interest.
The municipality’s historical and archaeological heritage is also presented by the Unterhaching Local History Museum Association through exhibitions, talks and information events. The hall at KUBIZ is accessible by lift. Free parking is available for events in a garage with more than 100 spaces. Access information can change, so check it before your visit.
Weekly market at Rathausplatz
The Unterhaching weekly market takes place every Thursday at Rathausplatz. Local producers sell fresh regional products there. The market also offers olives, marinated cheese, spreads and antipasti; the specific products available may vary from market day to market day. Check the market day before your visit if you plan to make it a fixed part of your trip.
This presents a clear contrast when choosing your destination: the S-Bahn and regional connections are useful for getting to Munich and the surrounding area, while the landscape park, cycling network and historic attractions offer a different way to experience Unterhaching. The seasonal restriction on access to parts of the meadows is a specific point to keep in mind if you plan to visit between March and August.
