Landsham offers three themes to help you plan a stay: church architecture with a historical depiction, farm history and a named hiking tour. The branch church of St. Stephanus and the Beim Lenz farm represent different historical points of reference; Poing Hiking Tour 6, “The Northwest,” passes through Landsham. Visitors interested in architectural and pictorial history will find different points of interest from those who enjoy hiking.

Church and historical depiction

The branch church of St. Stephanus in Landsham was designed and built in 1757/58 by Johann Baptist Lethner, master mason of the town of Erding. A large votive painting from 1712 on the south wall depicts the churches of the former parish of Schwaben and the Electoral Palace. The dates relate to different records: 1712 dates the painting, while 1757/58 dates the church’s design and construction. The painting is therefore more than four decades older than the building phase. The subject of the painting and the church’s history offer different historical perspectives: the painting shows the churches of the former parish and the palace, while St. Stephanus is associated with Lethner’s design and construction. This makes it possible to consider the depicted local and parish history separately from the origins of the church building.

Farm history and house cross

Beim Lenz is a smallholder’s farmhouse in Landsham, at Kirchheimer Straße 5; the farm was first mentioned in the Scharwerksbuch (register of compulsory labor obligations) in 1553. The date marks the farm’s first mention, not the year the house was built. It is therefore an early written reference point for the farm’s history, without establishing the age of the house. A carved Arma Christi house cross from 1940 is located at Erdinger Straße 17. In Christian iconography, the term Arma Christi refers to the instruments of Christ’s Passion. Unlike the reference to a farm, the date here identifies a named, carved object. The two details represent different historical traces: an early written reference to the farm and a house cross with its own date.

Hiking tour through Landsham

Poing Hiking Tour 6, “The Northwest,” passes through Landsham. A fallow deer enclosure can be seen there along the route. This adds a specific natural feature to the historical points of interest in the village. When weighing local history against a desire to hike as you plan, the tour answers a different question from the dates associated with the church and farm: it offers a named hiking option, while the historical details identify individual objects and place them in context. Route descriptions can be revised, so check the details for Tour 6 before setting out.

In the wider destination of Pliening

In Pliening, the wider destination, archaeological evidence attests to a first place of worship at the site of today’s Kreuzkirche in 1000 AD. This date refers to the first place of worship at the present-day church site. It offers an early historical comparison with Landsham, where the design and construction of St. Stephanus are dated to 1757/58. A skate park was also officially opened at Pliening’s sports grounds. The streetball court is located directly next to the skate park obstacle. This adds two further points of interest in the context of Pliening: an early church reference and a sports-related feature.
