If you are planning a stay in Simbach am Inn, cycling and hiking trails combine with local history, art and a seasonal outdoor pool. The Inn Valley Cycle Path and the Winklham Nature Experience Trail run right through Simbach am Inn; several hiking trails around Schellenberg add to the options. The local history museum focuses on the history and everyday life of the town and its surroundings.

Cycling and hiking trails around Simbach

The Inn Valley Cycle Path runs right through Simbach am Inn. The Winklham Nature Experience Trail also passes directly through the town and is about 2.6 km long. Four themed information boards, two overview boards and 19 signposts provide information along the way about habitats, animals and plants on the hillside above Winklham. The trail combines a manageable length with insights into the landscape. Before setting out on a hike, check the current trail conditions, as conditions on individual routes may vary.

Four different hiking trails, about 7 to 10 km long, are available around Schellenberg. By comparison, the Winklham Nature Experience Trail is shorter; the stated lengths can help you decide how far you would like to walk. At 552 m above sea level, Schellenberg is the highest elevation between the Inn and Rott rivers and offers views of the Inn Valley and neighboring Upper Austria. The hiking trails and the nature trail therefore differ both in their stated lengths and in the landscapes they pass through.

History, art and townscape

The Simbach am Inn Local History Museum explores the history, culture and everyday life of the town and its surroundings. Its permanent exhibition provides an overview of 150 years of railway history. A dedicated gallery honoring Josef Karl Nerud features around 50 works by the artist, who was born in Simbach, from all periods of his career. The collection thus spans his entire artistic career. St. Mary’s Parish Church also adds to the historical picture: it was consecrated in 1864.

Seasonal swimming

The Simbach a. Inn outdoor pool has two pools: a 50-meter swimming pool and a children’s pool. There are also two diving boards, one and three meters high. As opening times are seasonal and may change, check the current hours before visiting. This will help you fit a visit to the outdoor pool into your travel plans.
