Ergolding offers several different reasons to plan a stay: architectural history, archaeological themes, learning about nature in the Isar floodplains, and exercise. If you are looking for a hotel in Ergolding, it helps to plan your stay around the activities that interest you. This lets you explore the town through a range of themes: an archaeological circular trail, nature exploration in the Isar floodplains, and opportunities for exercise and leisure.

Church and Archaeological Trail

The parish church of the Visitation of Mary in Ergolding is a late Romanesque church dating from the 13th century. It also combines elements of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Rococo styles. Its three Rococo altars are considered to be of particular artistic value. If you would like to make architecture a focus of your visit, this building offers more than just one architectural style.

If you prefer to explore history at several stops rather than at a single building, the Archaeological Trail offers a different approach. At twelve stops, it presents archaeological finds and the lives of people from the past in words and pictures. The trail is circular and begins and ends at Ergolding Town Hall. Its paved paths make it easy to cover by bicycle or with a stroller. The starting and ending points, as well as the circular route, give the trail a clearly defined structure.

Nature Experiences in the Isar Floodplains

The nature experience and learning trail in the Ergolding Isar floodplains allows visitors, especially school groups, to learn about local nature and the animals and plants found there. Topics range from habitats in the floodplain forest and the diversity of plants in the nutrient-poor embankment areas to birdlife along the Isar and at the Altheim reservoir. The learning trail therefore covers a range of nature topics rather than focusing on a single animal or plant species.

The trail can be explored independently using activity sheets, which can also be combined with guided activities offered by Bund Naturschutz. The choice between the Archaeological Trail and the nature trail therefore depends mainly on whether you would prefer to focus on archaeological content at various stops or on nature topics while exploring independently.

Exercise and Leisure

The barefoot trail in Ergolding is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and divided into 24 tiles. This gives it a clearly defined layout without requiring a particular walking time or sequence. Another exercise option is the Ergolding fitness trail at the “Hinter der Etz” recreation area, next to Ergomar. It can be used independently, at any time, free of charge and without registration.

At Ergomar, a 78-metre-long adventure ride takes you through the dark. The log cabin sauna in the outdoor area uses alternating fresh and warm air; it is considered a special sauna experience, especially during the cold season. The leisure facilities therefore offer a range of options: a fitness trail for independent use, an adventure ride and a sauna experience that is particularly notable in certain seasons.
