If you stay in Vilsbiburg, you can plan walks, themed trails, cycling and culture as different priorities. The trails range from the 2.3-kilometre Family Trail to the 7.3-kilometre Climate Trail; the four circular trails are between 3.8 and 6.7 kilometres long. Their starting points also vary, offering a practical guide for choosing a route.

Choose trails by length and starting point

The Family Trail begins at the observation tower on Färberanger and is 2.3 kilometres long. It combines city life and nature on a route suitable for children. The circular trails offer several lengths and starting points:

  • The Western Circular Trail begins at the ball sports hall on UrbanstraĂźe and is 3.8 kilometres long.
  • The Northern Circular Trail starts at the town square and is 5.8 kilometres long.
  • The Southern Circular Trail begins at the Färberanger car park and is 5.9 kilometres long.
  • The Eastern Circular Trail starts at St. Martin Kindergarten and covers 6.7 kilometres.
  • The Sculpture Trail also begins at St. Martin Kindergarten and is 5.4 kilometres long.
  • The Climate Trail starts at the Färberanger car park and covers 7.3 kilometres.

If you are choosing between the Northern and Southern Circular Trails, their stated lengths of 5.8 and 5.9 kilometres are very similar. Their different starting points—the town square and the Färberanger car park—provide another practical point of comparison. At 3.8 kilometres, the Western Circular Trail is shorter; the Eastern Circular Trail covers 6.7 kilometres.

History and art in Vilsbiburg

The History Trail begins at the local history museum on the town square and is 3.1 kilometres long. It connects 14 historic buildings dating from past centuries. The Vilsbiburg Local History Museum is located at Stadtplatz 39–40. It displays a special collection of products from the widely renowned Kröning pottery trade. The museum has around 1,000 square metres of exhibition space and special exhibitions that change each year.

You can also encounter art at various locations around Vilsbiburg’s town centre. Kulturforum Vilsbiburg e. V. organised four artists’ symposia with the town in 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2018. They produced twelve works of art, which were installed at various locations around the town centre and have enriched public spaces ever since.

Cycling around

Christuskirche Vilsbiburg is on the Vilstal Cycle Route and offers cyclists a place to take a break and stop for refreshments. The cycling church at Christuskirche provides water, toilets, a place to inflate bicycle tyres and an opportunity for quiet reflection. As opening arrangements may change, it is advisable to check the current information before your visit.

Christuskirche also features the stained-glass window “I Am the Way” by Marlene Reidel, created in 1956. This brings together a practical connection to cycling and a specific work of art with its own history.
