Discover Weismain and find hotels
Accommodation in Weismain
Weismain combines a historic town center with trails exploring culture, nature and the history of the Earth. When choosing a destination and a hotel, it is worth considering these different highlights: buildings, a museum and nature trails each offer their own ways to explore history and the landscape. Some routes can be distinguished by their themes; an approximate duration is also given for the Urban Ecology Nature Trail. This lets you plan your stay around the interests that matter most to you.
Old Town, Market Square and Architectural History
Old townhouses stand on Weismain’s Market Square, with half-timbered upper floors. The street market in the Old Town was laid out in the early 13th century, and a well-preserved town wall surrounds the town center. These features show different sides of the town’s history: the construction of its houses, the early origins of the market and the surviving fortifications.
The Kastenhof was built from 1701 to 1703 to plans by Johann Leonhard Dientzenhofer. The Geological Timeline Trail is located by the Kastenhof in the town moat. Information boards, different ground surfaces and sculptures bring the history of the Earth to life there. The building and trail offer different highlights: the architectural history of a historic building alongside an engaging way to explore the history of the Earth.
Museum and Seasonal Highlights
The NordJURA Museum’s exhibition covers topics including the town’s defenses, the Thirty Years’ War and denominational fragmentation. While the town hall is being renovated, the permanent exhibition can currently only be visited to a limited extent because the St. Martin Municipal Library has moved into the museum rooms. Check the town’s notices about current access before visiting.
A seasonal highlight is Weismain’s Easter fountains, decorated with painted eggs. They can generally be seen from Palm Sunday until the Sunday after Easter. If you want to include the fountains in your stay, you can plan your trip around this usual period.
Nature Trails with Different Themes
The Schlauwienix Trail connects Weismain with the Kordigast and shares information about the region’s nature, culture and history along the hiking route. A hike on the Geutenreuth Spur begins at Weismain’s Market Square, by sign 1701, and heads toward the Baiersdorf hiking car park. The routes therefore differ, among other things, in their starting points: Schlauwienix connects Weismain with the Kordigast, while the hike on the Geutenreuth Spur starts in the Market Square.
The Water Adventure Trail begins at the Kneipp facility by the municipal works depot and follows the Weismain River to a weir with a water playground. If you are looking for an approximate duration when choosing a trail, one is given for the Urban Ecology Nature Trail: it takes about an hour and a half.
The Kalkberg Trail is a nature and cultural history hike with 16 stops through a cultural landscape shaped over centuries. Open limestone areas, pines and junipers define the landscape on the Kalkberg. You can also choose a route based on the theme you prefer: the stated approximate duration of the Urban Ecology Nature Trail, the river route of the Water Adventure Trail, or the landscape themes of the Kalkberg.
