Redwitz a.d.Rodach: Discover riverside paths and nature
Accommodation in Redwitz an der Rodach
Redwitz a.d.Rodach can be explored through several distinct themes: the riverside landscape at the Rodach biotope, walking and cycling routes, leisure activities in the town and traditional markets. Unterlangenstadt also features on several of the routes described. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on a loop starting at the market square, a section of the Three Rivers Trail, a forest circular trail or a swimming facility.
The Rodach biotope and routes through the landscape
The Redwitz Biotope Loop leads from the market square through the Rodach biotope and Unterlangenstadt and back to the market square. As a circular trail, it offers a clearly defined route through the places mentioned. Another route through the Redwitz area is part of the Three Rivers Trail Rodach-Steinach-Main: from the cycle path by the recycling centre, it leads through the Gries, over the Old Rodach Bridge and along the Rodach into the biotope. The diverse riverside landscape around the biotope can be explored on foot or by bike. Further afield in the region, the Three Rivers Trail also offers shortcuts, access points and places to stop for a meal.
The circular trail of the nature education path in Mannsgereuth offers a different perspective on the landscape. It passes through dark stretches of forest and affords views of the Steinach valley and the Thuringian Forest. Visibility depends on conditions along the route. This puts the forest sections and valley views of the nature education path alongside the routes through the riverside landscape at the Rodach biotope—different experiences to consider when planning your time outdoors.
Leisure activities and traditional markets
Redwitz outdoor swimming pool has a completely refurbished 50-metre sports and swimming pool as well as a children's pool. Facilities may change, so check the current conditions before your visit. Near the swimming pool, you can try out tricks on a skateboard, inline skates, BMX bike or scooter along the Flurbereinigungsweg—from Gässla/Weiherdammstraße towards Unterlangenstadt. Also check local conditions for this activity before travelling.
Traditional markets are held several times a year in the market square and other locations in town. The former monthly market has been discontinued. If you would like to plan your stay around a market visit, check the dates in advance. This way, you can include the recurring markets in your plans without treating the former monthly market as a current event.
Pilgrimage routes and other attractions in Lichtenfels
The Ave Maria Route and the Magnificat Route pass through Unterlangenstadt, a district of Redwitz. Together, the pilgrimage routes extend for around 1,100 kilometres across Upper and Middle Franconia and lead to 40 Marian sites. This information reflects both their connection to Unterlangenstadt and the wider scope of the two routes.
In the wider destination of Lichtenfels, the 14-kilometre Pfad der Flechtkultur (Basketry Culture Trail) connects Lichtenfels and Michelau on nature-friendly paths through the Main floodplains. Its 23 information boards cover the history and traditions of basket-making, the basket industry and basket trading along the Upper Main. The trail also features a willow maze for children near Oberwallenstadt, a willow shelter at the river lido, a woven tipi at Ortswiesensee Oberwallenstadt and other woven artworks.
Lichtenfels Old Town has also retained its distinctly Franconian character. The Bamberg Gate and Kronach Gate have been preserved, and parts of the old town wall are still visible. The Lichtenfels City Palace houses municipal collections on the history of beer and brewing, the railway and basket trading. Exhibition content may change, so it is advisable to check the latest information before visiting.
