Forstern offers a range of cultural and historical points of interest: in Tading, the Church of the Assumption shapes the village’s character, while on the outskirts of Forstern, the Eicher Museum presents another facet of the region. Architecture, religious art and technology shaped by agriculture each have their own focus. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish these local themes from the additional destinations in the broader travel destination of Erding.

Church Art in Tading

The Church of the Assumption stands in Tading, in the municipality of Forstern. This imposing and distinctive building is typical of the Erdinger Baroque style. Several works of art reveal the range of periods represented in its furnishings. At the center of the richly decorated high altar is the original Gothic miraculous image, dating from around 1500. The high altar was created by Erdinger cabinetmaker Johann Eckhart and Erdinger sculptor Josef Senes. The sculptures are by Christian Jorhan of Landshut; the ceiling painting was created in 1765 by Johann Martin Heigl, a court painter from Munich.

The history of the pilgrimage is also part of this place’s story: it began in the 17th century and continued until the end of the 18th century. Together, the works of art and the historic pilgrimage tell of different eras and forms of religious devotion. The miraculous image, dating from around 1500, and the ceiling painting dated 1765 provide specific points of reference.

Technology at the Eicher Museum

The Eicher Museum, on the outskirts of Forstern, offers a different focus. Its collection includes narrow-track tractors for wine and fruit growing, as well as the Eicher Farm-Express, a Bavarian interpretation of a pickup truck. The examples differ both in form and in their stated purpose: alongside tractors for specialized growing areas is a vehicle described as a Bavarian interpretation of a pickup truck. The collection can thus be explored through specific exhibits and their different connections to agriculture.
