Röhrmoos brings together church and pilgrimage history, traces of former peat extraction, and a cycling route through several towns. These topics offer different starting points for planning your trip: you can focus on historical connections or combine local and landscape history with a bike ride.

Mariabrunn and its connections to Sisi

From 1662, Mariabrunn developed into an important pilgrimage site in the Diocese of Freising following a miraculous healing attributed to water from a spring. Today, the site is part of the municipality of Röhrmoos. Its history thus connects a religious origin with its present-day affiliation with the municipality.

Amalie Hohenester practised in Mariabrunn from 1863. The guest books of the time recorded nobles and wealthy citizens from across Europe, including Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) of Austria. Two leaded Art Nouveau windows inside the church also commemorate Empress Sisi’s stays in Mariabrunn for spa treatments. Together, the guest book entries and the windows offer two different insights into the historical connection with Sisi.

Churches and landscapes in the municipality

The branch church of St. Lantpert, also known as Lampert, is located on the northeastern edge of Riedenzhofen. Its precise location distinguishes it from the landscape traces southeast of the town.

Peat was once extracted from the moor southeast of Riedenzhofen. The last peat ditches and peat huts disappeared around 1970. The history of peat extraction is therefore also a history of specific landscape features: ditches and huts were part of this former activity, but have not survived over time.

Cycling route and visit planning

The 7-Klöster-Weg cycling route runs through Röhrmoos and Großinzemoos to Markt Indersdorf. It offers a different perspective on the places mentioned than the church and landscape topics tied to specific locations: the focus is on a cycling route that connects several places along its course.

Mariabrunn is also home to a well-known beer garden. If you plan to visit, check the latest operating details in advance. This keeps the beer garden as a separate point in your plans alongside the historical topics and the cycling route.

Dachau as a separate regional context

In the wider Dachau destination, Lake Karlsfeld is located right next to the built-up area of northern Karlsfeld. It covers 58.2 hectares and is in the district of Dachau. It is used year-round for walking, jogging, cycling, and recreation. These different activities give a concrete impression of how the lake is used throughout the year.

Also within the wider Dachau destination, the approximately 2.5-kilometre-long “Lebensader Maisach” trail follows the Maisach River. It is accessible without barriers from Bergkirchen or Günding. These details provide a separate regional context alongside the local Röhrmoos topics.
