The charging station’s availability may change, so check in advance whether it will be available during your visit. You can also take attractions in the wider Dachau destination into account when planning your trip.

Nature and outdoor activities in the wider Dachau destination

The Karlsfelder See recreational area is right next to the built-up area of Karlsfeld-Nord. It covers 58.2 hectares, is located in the Dachau district, and is used year-round for walking, jogging, cycling and recreation. The destination’s trails offer another way to explore the area: the “Lebensader Maisach” is about 2.5 kilometres long, runs alongside the Maisach River and is accessible to people with disabilities from Bergkirchen or Günding. The sculpture trail on Petersberg is considerably shorter, at 200 metres. It runs through Petersberg Forest, with a total of ten works of art at eight stations. The two trails therefore differ both in length and theme.

The Amper floodplains are another reason to go for a walk. With patience and a little luck, you can spot the unusual feeding marks left by beavers, which have returned to the area. The focus is on signs of the animal’s presence, not a guaranteed sighting: patience and the necessary luck are part of this nature-watching experience.

Art, monasteries and history in Dachau

On Petersberg near Erdweg stands a Romanesque basilica built in 1104 and preserved to this day. The sculpture trail runs through Petersberg Forest and offers a different perspective with its ten works of art at eight stations. The central section of the “Der 7-Klöster-Weg” cycle route leads to Altomünster, which was home to a Brigittine monastery for centuries, and to Petersberg near Erdweg. This means that, alongside the short sculpture trail, attractions at two stops on the cycling route are also worth exploring.

The permanent exhibition at the Museum Altomünster presents the history of the Order of the Most Holy Saviour (Brigittines) in Europe and of its founder, Saint Bridget of Sweden. It also covers the history of the Altomünster monastery, which existed for 500 years and is now closed. The “Kunst und Kultur um den Klosterberg” walking trail circles the monastery and passes important sights. Visitors interested in the town can explore the exhibition topics and the walking trail as different ways of learning about the monastery’s history.

The Bezirksmuseum in the town of Dachau displays exhibits across three floors covering settlement patterns, the town’s history, guild and market rights, crafts and trade, everyday life, holiday customs and religious folk culture. The permanent collection of the Dachau Picture Gallery focuses on something different: it features landscape and genre paintings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Dachau’s historic old town is protected as an architectural ensemble and invites visitors to stroll and linger.

Wittelsbach Castle Dachau was once a popular summer residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty. The climb up to the castle is rewarded with views across the Munich gravel plain, the state capital Munich and as far as the Alps. Guided tours are held regularly at the castle; current dates are announced as they become available. Check the dates before planning your visit.
