Petershausen combines seven hiking trails, the “Dachauer Oxenweg” cycle route, a short forest nature trail and distinctive sites in the Glonntal. The routes range from about 200 m for the nature trail to 8–13 km for the hiking trails and 42 km for the cycle route. If you are looking for a hotel in Petershausen, you can plan your stay around these different highlights—from hikes and a regional bike tour to individual landmarks.

Glonntal and field monument in Kollbach

The Glonn runs for 5.6 km through Petershausen. In Kollbach, the field monument stands on the southern edge of the Glonntal, west of the village, at the former sports ground. Its approximately 50-m-long earth sculpture is shaped like a landscape dragon; from its head, you can look out over the Glonntal. The shape and the view are two distinct aspects of the same monument: its striking design and the view of the valley from the dragon’s head.

Hiking and cycling by distance

Seven varied hiking trails around Petershausen range from 8 to 13 km in length. This range is a useful first guide when deciding how far you would like to hike. Check the details of each route before setting out. Shorter is the approximately 200-m-long forest nature trail in eastern Petershausen, above the “Über der Glonn” residential area. It was created by the Petershausen branch of the Bund Naturschutz. Its length offers a different scale from the multi-kilometre hiking trails.

The “Dachauer Oxenweg” cycle route follows the tracks of oxen for 42 km along the Zeitlbach and through the Glonntal. It begins in Tödtenried, passes sights in Altomünster, Markt Indersdorf and Petershausen, and ends in Hohenkammer. Unlike the hiking trails around Petershausen, it is described as starting in Tödtenried and ending in Hohenkammer. Check local route information before setting out.

Wedding grove and sound stone

The wedding grove is east of Obermarbach. Residents can plant a fruit tree there for special occasions such as weddings and baptisms. An approximately 1.5 m² sound stone is located nearby. Its vibrations can be heard, felt and seen by drumming on it. The two places offer different experiences: the wedding grove is associated with planting trees for special occasions, while the sound stone offers an experience that engages several senses.
