Discover Untersiemau: Planet Trail, Legends Trails and Castle Pond

In Untersiemau, themed walks and individual attractions are available to help you plan your trip. The Planet Trail, sundial, legends routes and meadow orchards offer different focuses; at the castle pond, a recreation area and views of the moated castle add to the local attractions.

Planet Trail and walks

The Planet Trail is one of the attractions in Untersiemau. It leads from Banz Castle to the Sun in Untersiemau, is about 11 km long and takes approximately three hours. This gives you an approximate distance and duration to factor into your schedule. The sundial is also one of the town’s attractions.

The Querkelsteig adds another route of a similar length: the western legends trail circular route is also about 11 km long. This gives you a choice of two different themes over a comparable distance; the Planet Trail also comes with an approximate duration of three hours to help you plan your time. When choosing between the two, you can opt for the planetary theme or the legends trail.

The nature trail offers walks along meadow orchards in Untersiemau. This provides a nature-focused option in addition to the planetary and legends themes. The three options differ in their focus: the Planet Trail, the legends circular route or the meadow orchards along the way.

Legends trails and castles

At the hiking car park on Coburger Straße, the starting point of the U7 Eastern Legends Trail in Untersiemau, an information board shows the trail’s legends stations. The U7 leads to the Am Schlossteich recreation area, which features the “Pirates’ Cove” adventure playground; from there, you can enjoy views of Untersiemau Moated Castle. The playground offers plenty for children to discover.

The U4 Stegnersbrunnen is a circular hiking trail from Birkach am Forst via Weißenbrunn am Forst to Untersiemau and back to Birkach am Forst. The Upper Castle and Lower Castle in Untersiemau are considered highlights of the route. The U7 and U4 also differ in their routes: the U7 leads to the castle pond recreation area, while the U4 passes through several named places and includes the two castles as highlights.

Recreation area at the castle pond

The recreation area at the castle pond has benches and seating groups overlooking the pond, providing a place to relax. The area also includes a Kneipp pool and exercise equipment for adults and older people. This specific destination, with its seating and exercise facilities, complements the walks and attractions in Untersiemau.
