Bodenmais brings together a variety of themes for trip planning: nature trails and waterscapes, art and culture, and a visit to the visitor mine. The offerings also differ in their format: there are trails with a stated distance, a guided tour underground, changing exhibitions and art objects in a garden. When choosing, you can first consider whether you want to focus on a specific route, a cultural offering or a special natural attraction.

Nature Trails and Waterscapes

The Ameisenstraße in Bodenmais is a 2.5-kilometre nature adventure trail suitable for strollers, with 27 stations. The stations add individual stops to the stated distance; the trail is therefore characterised by more than just its length. Its suitability for strollers is another specific factor to consider when choosing this nature adventure trail.

Woid Woifes Welt includes a water adventure area with a Kneipp pool and a boardwalk over a wetland habitat. These features offer different experiences: the Kneipp pool is part of the water adventure area, while the boardwalk crosses the wetland habitat. So alongside a nature adventure trail with a stated length and stations, there is also a water area and a path over a wetland habitat.

Visitor Mine and Trail System

On a guided tour of the Historic Bodenmais Visitor Mine, the route leads through the Barbarastollen, which is over 600 metres long, to the Große Barbaraverhau. There, you can see machinery and ore shafts in operation. The tour combines a named tunnel with a specific destination area where operating equipment can be seen. This distinguishes the visit from the hiking options, which focus on the route, natural attractions or elevation gain.

The trail system in Silberberg is about 20 kilometres long. This figure refers to the trail system; the over 600 metres, by contrast, refers to the length of the Barbarastollen. The figures therefore describe two different scales in mining: the system and the named tunnel.

Culture and Art

Changing exhibitions are held in the gallery on the first floor of the Altes Rathaus cultural centre. Each exhibition programme gives international artists and emerging artists a platform. Both the changing exhibitions and the different groups of artists are therefore part of the cultural offering.

At the JOSKA Kristall-Gärten, art objects complement the natural surroundings. Sculptures made of glass, rusty metal and stone are incorporated into the garden. The two offerings are easy to distinguish by their focus: at the Altes Rathaus, the emphasis is on the gallery and changing exhibitions; at the JOSKA Kristall-Gärten, it is on the sculptures, their materials and the garden.

Waterfalls and Hiking Routes

The Rißlochwasserfälle consist of five main cascades and are 55 metres high in total; the main waterfall is 15 metres high. These figures distinguish the total height of the waterfalls from the height of the main waterfall. Along the path to the Rißlochwasserfälle, information boards from the Bavarian Forest Nature Park provide information about the flora and fauna of the nature reserve. This combines the natural attraction with information about the plant and animal life along the path.

The Wildes-Wasser-Weg links two natural spectacles on a hiking route in Bodenmais. The Seven Summits Bodenmais hike has a different focus: it leads over seven peaks around the health resort and covers 47 kilometres and 1,862 metres of elevation gain. By comparison, the Ameisenstraße is considerably shorter at 2.5 kilometres. The options offer different points of reference to help you choose: a route between natural spectacles, a summit hike with stated elevation gain, or a shorter nature adventure trail with stations.
