Fuchsstadt: Chapels, Local History Museum and Nature and Culture Trail
Accommodation in Fuchsstadt
For a trip to Fuchsstadt, you can easily combine several local interests: a circular hiking trail leads to four chapels, the local history museum brings together a variety of collections, and a nature and culture trail leads to the municipality’s dream spot. There is also the Fuschter Kneipp pool, used for Kneipp water therapy. These themes give you a practical starting point for shaping your trip around culture, local history and trails.
Chapel trails and a destination
The circular hiking trail in Fuchsstadt leads to the Franzosenkapelle, Lauerbachkapelle, Kohlenbergkapelle and Dreifaltigkeitskapelle. These four destinations create a clear cultural thread for a circular walk. If you would like to visit several chapels as connected stops, the trail offers a practical structure for doing so.
Another route offers a different focus: the Fuchsstadt Nature and Culture Trail starts at the sports ground in Fuchsstadt and leads to the municipality’s dream spot. The routes differ in their explicitly stated destinations: the chapel walk focuses on four chapels, while the nature and culture trail leads to the dream spot. This can help you plan an outing around either several cultural sites or one named destination.
Collections and guided tours at the local history museum
The collection in the barn of the Fuchsstadt Local History Museum includes items related to household life, agriculture, crafts, popular religious practices and technology, as well as objects from the Fuchsstadt primary school. The topics therefore range from everyday and working life to religious practice and the school environment. Artifacts from the Neolithic period, attributed to Fuchsstadt’s first farmers, are also on display. The different collections offer a range of perspectives on local history.
Guided tours at the Fuchsstadt Local History Museum explain unusual uses and methods of making things: a laundry boiler and laundry tongs were also used for cooking sausages, wood-grain paint was mixed with beer, and a basic motor could be fitted with different attachments to work as either a vacuum cleaner or a hair dryer. These examples add a practical perspective to the objects on display.
From March to September, free guided tours are offered on the first Sunday of each month; at other times, tours are available on request. Check the current tour arrangements before your visit.
Fuchsstadt and the wider region
The Fuschter Kneipp pool is used for Kneipp water therapy. The Rhön is a short distance from Fuchsstadt, and Bad Kissingen and Hammelburg are within easy reach. There is also quick access to the motorway for longer trips. This makes it easy to distinguish local trails and cultural attractions from broader regional plans.
The wider destination of Bad Kissingen lies in the Bad Kissingen district, on the southern edge of the Rhön. The district combines the foothills and open landscapes of the Rhön with a long wine-making tradition and valuable mineral water. The Schondra Valley is one of Franconia’s most beautiful unspoiled forest valleys.
The transport information also refers to the Bad Kissingen district: the A 7 between Fulda and Würzburg and the A 71 between Erfurt and Schweinfurt cross it from north to south. Since 1 January 2025, the district has been part of the Mainfranken Local Transport Association (NVM).
