Discover Riedenberg
Accommodation in Riedenberg
Riedenberg offers visitors protected sights and hiking destinations in the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park. When looking for a hotel for your stay here, you can consider which interests you more: the village’s monuments or trails to mountain huts and the basalt lake. The sights and routes offer different points of interest to explore.
Hiking trails and destinations in the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park
Riedenberg is located in the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park. Hiking trails lead from there to the nearby Berghaus Rhön, Würzburger Karl-Straub-Haus and Kissinger Hütte mountain huts. These three destinations give your plans a specific focus if you are interested in hiking trails and huts.
The Rhönklub’s “Hüttentour” (Hut Tour) offers a combination of a hiking route and a scenic destination: it leads uphill through the Farnsberg recreation area to Berghaus Rhön and the “Tintenfass” basalt lake. The basalt lake is one of Riedenberg’s sights and lies above the Farnsberg youth campsite. It is known by the name “Tintenfass der Rhön” (Inkpot of the Rhön). If you make the Hut Tour your main focus, Berghaus Rhön and the basalt lake are two destinations explicitly linked along the route.
Another point of reference is the Rhön-Rundweg 16 Sinntal. It starts at the Brunnenplatz in Riedenberg. The two routes therefore differ in their described focus: the Hut Tour leads uphill to Berghaus Rhön and the basalt lake, while Circular Route 16 starts at the Brunnenplatz. Rhön circular routes are renumbered, and their signage may change. So check local information before setting off.
Protected sights in Riedenberg
Riedenberg’s sights include a linden tree planted in 1851 and protected as a monument. There is also a protected monument in the cemetery, which is among the sights. In addition, some wayside shrines in Riedenberg are protected as monuments. These places highlight different forms of protected heritage: a tree with a specific planting year, a monument in the cemetery and wayside shrines.
Two chapels add to this selection in different ways. The War Memorial Chapel in Riedenberg was built on a steep hill and is considered worth seeing. The Marienkapelle lies above Riedenberg and is a landmark of the village. It has a stepped Stations of the Cross route and stations of the cross. While the War Memorial Chapel is described in terms of its location on a steep hill, the Marienkapelle is defined by its landmark status and the Stations of the Cross route.
Bad Kissingen as a regional setting
As a wider travel destination, the Bad Kissingen district lies on the southern edge of the Rhön. The district connects the foothills and open landscapes of the Rhön with a long wine-growing tradition and valuable healing waters. The Schondratal is also one of Franconia’s most beautiful unspoiled forest valleys. This geographical and scenic context adds to the picture of Riedenberg, which itself lies in the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park.
The main transport routes also provide orientation in the district: the A 7 between Fulda and Würzburg and the A 71 between Erfurt and Schweinfurt cross the district from north to south. Since 1 January 2025, the Bad Kissingen district has been part of the Nahverkehr Mainfranken public transport association. This information concerns the district as a whole and provides a regional context for your travel planning, not information about a specific local connection.
