If you are considering Berglen as a destination for a hotel stay, you can combine your visit with walks, hikes, and nature experiences. The municipality’s landscape is shaped by meadows, fruit trees, forests, and fields. In Berglen and the surrounding area, walking and hiking trails invite you to discover scenic highlights throughout the year. When planning your day, you can explore a range of themes: fruit trees and other woody plants, circular hiking trails, seasonal orchid blooms, and local history.

Hiking with a range of themes

The 2.7 km Orchard and Woodland Trail in Bretzenacker features around 200 different fruit tree and other woody plant species. For planning, it is helpful to have both a clearly stated trail length and a specific theme: here, the focus is on the diversity of fruit trees and other woody plants.

In spring 2018, the municipality marked six new circular hiking trails with the nature park’s standardized hiking trail signage. This brings two different aspects of hiking into focus: a trail explicitly named for its nature theme and circular routes designed as loops. In winter, opportunities for ski touring and cross-country skiing are also available in Berglen and the surrounding area.

In spring 2020, one of the first wheelchair-accessible hiking trails in the nature park area was initiated in Berglen, in partnership with the German Federal Association for Self-Help for People with Disabilities (Bundesverband Selbsthilfe Körperbehinderter e. V.), the Rems-Murr District Youth Council (Kreisjugendring Rems-Murr e. V.), and the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park. If wheelchair accessibility is essential to your plans, please check the latest information about this route in advance.

Woodland garden and seasonal nature

The woodland teaching garden, established in 1982, lies at the edge of the forest in Hößlinswart. It has since been redesigned by BUND and the Hößlinswart Fruit and Horticultural Association. It features almost all the woody plant species that grow wild in the area. The garden offers a distinct focus alongside the fruit tree and woodland themes of the Bretzenacker trail: here, the emphasis is on the diversity of native woody plants.

The Sommerrain nature reserve lies not far from the starting point of the Königsbronn circular trail. Native orchid species grow there and bloom at different times of the year. The time of your visit therefore affects which flowers you may see; no specific flowering period is given. Together with the meadows, fruit trees, and forests, these natural features shape Berglen’s character.

Local history and practical information

The Berglen Local History Museum is located in Oppelsbohm. Through selected objects, it presents past living conditions and key economic developments in Berglen. This cultural-historical perspective complements interests in nature and hiking: when planning your stay, you can take in both the trails and landscape and the area’s history.

In Ă–dernhardt, several benches invite you to pause in nature and enjoy the views. The bus stop in Ă–dernhardt, near the hiking trail, is accessible. The benches and bus stop serve different purposes: the former are places to rest, while the latter is relevant for arriving by bus.

Hiking in the wider destination of Rems-Murr District

If you are considering a longer hike beyond Berglen, the wider destination of Rems-Murr District offers another point of reference. The Rems-Murr Hiking Trail is 50 kilometers long and can be walked in three stages from Endersbach via Winnenden to Murrhardt. This makes it possible to distinguish Berglen’s local nature and hiking experiences from a multi-stage hiking route across the district, without treating the two as the same offering.
