Goldkanal and the Rafting Museum

Goldkanal is a 145.7-hectare lake in Steinmauern and part of the PAMINA Rhine Park. As a prominent body of water, it provides a specific landscape reference point for describing the town. The Steinmauern Rafting Museum is also part of the German-French PAMINA Rhine Park. It is temporarily closed while being redesigned. If the museum is important to your trip, check whether it has reopened before visiting.

Cycle Routes and Their Routes

The MÖBS circular route is approximately 40 km long and passes through the municipalities of Muggensturm, Ötigheim, Bietigheim and Steinmauern. The approximate total length and the four named municipalities give you an idea of the route’s length and where it goes. Steinmauern is explicitly one of the municipalities on the route.

The PAMINA Rhine Floodplains Cycle Route can once again be used along its original route within the districts of Rastatt, Steinmauern, Elchesheim-Illingen and Au am Rhein. The two cycle routes have different focuses: the MĂ–BS circular route is described by its approximate 40 km length and the municipalities it passes through, while the PAMINA route specifies the restored route and four districts. If you are including cycling in your travel plans, you can compare the information according to the detail that matters to you: route length or where it goes.

In the Wider Destination of Rastatt

The Rastatt City Museum is housed in a Baroque town palace opposite the Residential Palace. Its permanent exhibitions cover Rastatt’s history over the past 300 years, as well as prehistory and early history. Rastatt Palace was the first Baroque residence built on German soil and was designed after the model of Versailles. Favorite Palace is the oldest and only German porcelain palace preserved in its original form.

The Memorial to the Freedom Movements in German History offers a different historical perspective. It presents key stages in the development of liberty and democratic traditions from the early modern period to the present day. Exhibits, models, pictures, caricatures and contemporary texts illustrate the revolutionary struggle of men and women across Germany in 1848/49, which ended with the fall of Rastatt Fortress.

Eberstein Castle was built in 1272 and is a popular destination high above the town of Gernsbach. For a different kind of outing, the bobsled track at the Mehliskopf Leisure and Sports Centre has a 1,000-metre descent with four steep bends through the forest, seven steep bends across meadows and eight water crossings.

The Murgtal/BĂĽhlertal winter sports area in the district of Rastatt offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and snowboarding, as well as ten ski lifts and a 110-kilometre network of cross-country ski trails. At the Iffezheim barrage, the fish ladder has a visitor room. There, you can watch fish swim in stages through the fish passage.
