Oberstenfeld brings together several different points of interest for planning a trip: Lichtenberg Castle above the town, the Magnet Angling Museum Oberstenfeld, hiking options, and the Mineral Outdoor Pool of the Upper Bottwar Valley. When choosing a hotel, you can decide whether architectural history, trails, or the features of the outdoor pool matter most to you. Specific visiting or opening times are also relevant for the castle and the museum.

Lichtenberg Castle: history and access

Lichtenberg Castle stands above Oberstenfeld and is one of the best-preserved castles from the Staufer period north of the Alps. It was first mentioned in a document in 1196 in connection with the Lords of Lichtenberg. The chapel next to the castle gate dates from around 1230. The castle offers views across the Bottwar Valley.

The castle is privately owned and is not generally open to the public. Guided tours take place on the first Sunday of each month. Private tours are available for groups of at least twelve adults, including in English. Dates and registration requirements may change; check them before visiting. Confirm private tour arrangements before booking.

Museum and hiking options

The Magnet Angling Museum Oberstenfeld displays original finds from local waters. It is open on the first Sunday of each month from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm; August, September, December, and January are excluded. The schedule may change, so check opening times before your visit.

Oberstenfeld is considered the most forested municipality in the surrounding area and offers numerous hiking options. One specifically named route, Wein-Lese-Weg Tour 4, runs between Oberstenfeld and Beilstein. When planning, you can choose between general hiking options and a tour with explicitly named locations.

The wellness area includes bubble loungers, spray showers, massage jets, and floor bubblers. There is also a beach volleyball court and eight trampoline beds. In addition to water and play activities, these wellness and exercise options are available.

Wine trails in the wider destination of Ludwigsburg

In the wider destination of Ludwigsburg, terraced steep vineyard slopes along the Neckar and Enz rivers shape the county's landscape. The WeinErlebnisWeg Wunnenstein is about four kilometers long and passes 60 illustrated information boards about viticulture and wine production. Viewpoints, restaurants, seating areas, barbecue spots, and Wengertschützen huts are located along the trail.

A shorter trail option in the same wider destination is the 1.9-kilometer wine education trail on Geigersberg in Sachsenheim. The circular route features information boards about nature and wine culture, as well as rest areas. The two trails therefore differ both in length and in the topics covered by their boards.
