Discover Mundelsheim through its vineyard landscape, historic town center and archaeological traces. Käsberg is designated as an important natural monument in Württemberg. Many small vineyard terraces step up its shell limestone slope, rising around 100 meters from the floor of the Neckar Valley. The terraced slope thus shapes the landscape around Käsberg.

Vineyard Landscape and Trails

The Käsberg Circular Trail is a 5.1-kilometer circular route along the terraced slopes of the Mundelsheim loop of the Neckar. Near the historic town center, it passes half-timbered houses and gatehouses. This route therefore takes you through both the vineyard landscape and the historic buildings in the town center. As trail conditions can change seasonally, check the local signs before setting out. Mundelsheim also has six wine and orchard hiking trails.

Käsberg Pulpit offers panoramic views across the entire Mundelsheim loop of the Neckar and a place to enjoy a picnic. This viewpoint offers a different focus from the circular trails: the view over the river loop takes center stage.

Local History and Archaeological Traces

The Historic Walking Tour introduces 24 sites in the town center as well as other outdoor sites and takes about 60 minutes. It focuses on individual historic places, while the Käsberg Circular Trail links the town center and terraced slope on a circular route. Depending on how much time you have and what interests you, you can choose between a themed walk around town and a longer landscape trail.

St. Kilian's Church contains richly painted late Gothic frescoes dating from 1460 to 1470. Visits to the church can be arranged in advance through the rectory. Please arrange your visit ahead of time.

At Ottmarsheimer Höhe, archaeological sites include an excavated Roman cellar with explanatory and illustrated panels, as well as the remains of a Mithras temple. The temple remains lie around 50 meters west of the cellar. Both sites are freely accessible via the Ottmarsheimer Höhe industrial estate; Wine and Orchard Hiking Trail 3 also leads to them. Check access arrangements and trail signs before your visit.

Crafts and Wine

The museum's fully equipped cooper's workshop illustrates historic and more recent barrel-making techniques. The wheelwright exhibition showcases the working methods and products of the traditional wheelwright trade. The exhibition in the Stiftsscheuer opens on market days and during local festivals; group visits can be arranged in advance. Please arrange a visit ahead of time, as opening arrangements may change.

Around 600 winegrowers from Mundelsheim have their grapes processed together at the Käsbergkeller. The Käsbergkeller offers wine tastings and visits by appointment; please arrange a time in advance. The Käsbergkeller Wine Experience Trail features four interactive stations. They cover the structure of the vine, wine production, seasonal work in the vineyard and the animals found among the vineyards. The trail thus offers a distinct way to explore the themes that also shape the vineyard terraces and local wine industry.
