Discover Tiefenbronn
Accommodation in Tiefenbronn
Tiefenbronn brings together the art history of St. Mary Magdalene with historic village trails and walking or cycling tours. If you are looking for a hotel in Tiefenbronn, the altars, local history or your planned activity can provide a focus for your stay. The routes vary considerably: alongside a short walking trail, there is a circular hiking trail and cycling tours with different levels of difficulty.
St. Mary Magdalene: Architectural History and Art
St. Mary Magdalene has five late Gothic winged altars. These include the high altar by Hans Schüchlin, dating from 1469, and the Magdalene altar by Lucas Moser, dating from 1432. The large altarpiece of the high altar has painted wings on both sides, a predella and a superstructure; it is designed as an altar of the Virgin Mary and the Passion. The altar is one of the most significant winged altars in southwestern Germany.
The choir and windows also reflect different periods: the Gothic choir dates from around 1350 and has a high rib-vaulted ceiling. The valuable stained-glass windows were made in Strasbourg in 1370 and supplemented by Emil Wachter in 1976. The church treasury also includes a Gothic tower monstrance by the Augsburg artist Jörg Seld, dating from 1500, which is considered its most important treasure.

Local History and Walking Trails
The historic village tour in Tiefenbronn provides background information on the Gemmingen castle and other buildings. Historic images on building plaques complement the tour and offer glimpses into the past. This means the buildings are not only viewed as individual stops; the plaques add historical views of the buildings.
The “Path of the Senses” is a relatively short walking trail from the sports ground to the cemetery in Tiefenbronn. Hede Leicht designed it in 2017. Texts along the trail, as well as trees, shrubs and flowers, are intended to be experienced mindfully. For a short walk with this sensory focus, the trail offers an alternative to the longer route: the R 2000 hiking trail loops around the Tiefenbronn district.
Cycling Tours with Different Themes
The moderately difficult Chapel Trail is suitable for ATB and mountain bikes and is signposted from Tiefenbronn via Neuhausen to Hohenwart. Some chapels lie a little off the route. If you would like to include specific chapels, take this into account when planning your tour.
The Würm/Monbachtal route is a longer, moderately difficult tour that passes through the Hagenschieß forest, follows the Würm and Nagold rivers, and goes through the Monbachtal valley. It runs via Neuhausen and back to Tiefenbronn and is suitable for experienced families with cycling experience. Unlike the Chapel Trail, the longer route is an explicit part of this route description.
The Höfetour also runs around the village in the area close to Tiefenbronn. This short, easy cycling tour is intended for the whole family and leads to farms that you can visit along the way. This gives you a choice of a short, easy family route and two moderately difficult tours when planning your cycling trip; some chapels lie a little off the Chapel Trail, while the Würm/Monbachtal tour is described as a longer loop.
