Travel planning in Néoules can focus on a range of themes: architectural history, Font Marcellin and the hike to Pilon Saint-Clément. If you are looking for a hotel in Néoules, you can decide whether culture, nature or a specific event date should shape your stay. The following places and activities offer practical guidance.

History of Néoules: Castle and Church

The castle of Néoules was built or rebuilt in 1584 by François Blancard, a co-lord of Néoules. It is located opposite the Church of Saint Jean-Baptiste and has four round towers and a central courtyard. The church was built in 1528 and expanded in 1567. On August 24, 1578, Saint Jean-Baptiste became the parish church of Néoules, replacing a priory that had already existed in 1015. These dates trace the story from the early priory through the church’s construction phases to the history of the castle.

Châteauloin and the Festival de Néoules

Châteauloin adds to the architectural history with a tower dating from the 10th century and a 19th-century sheepfold surrounded by oak trees. The site is also suitable for picnics and musical and theatrical gatherings. The location thus combines historic buildings with uses that also include events.

The Festival de Néoules takes place at Châteauloin. The 2026 edition featured numerous artists, a market for craftspeople and creative makers, artistic performances, and live-painting demonstrations. The festival once again ran for three days in a friendly, festive and cross-generational atmosphere. The program and dates vary with each edition. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition.

Font Marcellin: Wetland Near the Village

Font Marcellin is a 0.3-hectare sensitive natural area near the village. It is managed by the Var Department and serves as a refuge for biodiversity. The area includes an educational pond and a watercourse. These provide typical wetland species with opportunities to thrive, take refuge or simply pass through. The species mentioned include the broad-bodied chaser, the little bittern and the brown trout.

Hike to Pilon Saint-Clément

The hike begins at the Ferrage car park in Néoules; a totem sign at the entrance marks the starting point. The full-day route follows tracks and trails through the garrigue to a ridge offering 360-degree panoramas of the sea and the Maures and Sainte-Baume massifs. In clear weather, the view also extends to the Alps. Set aside a full day for the hike. The view takes in several named landscape areas, while visibility as far as the Alps is explicitly dependent on clear weather.

Market and Transport Planning

In 2023, the Bon p’tit marché hebdo de Néoules offered fruit and vegetables, roast chicken, artisan bread, cade, local honey and oriental pastries. If you are planning your visit around the market, check the current market day and vendors in advance.

The Font Marcellin stop is served by routes on the Zou regional transit network and by Mouv’enbus. As routes and timetables may change, check them before travelling.
