Discover La Seyne-Sur-Mer
Accommodation in La Seyne-Sur-Mer
La Seyne-sur-Mer brings together coastal landscapes, protected natural areas and historic buildings. You can choose different focuses for your stay: beaches and hiking trails, summer activities on the water, or architecture and museums. The places and experiences offer various ways to explore the destination according to your interests.
Coast, Forest and Hiking Trails
Fabrégas Beach lies in a sheltered bay at the foot of Cap Sicié. Fine black sand characterizes this stretch of coast. If you are interested in natural landscapes, the Forêt de Janas is a 391-hectare woodland area suited to family outings and discovering the local flora and fauna.
The Domaine de Fabrégas also offers a chance to explore protected natural areas. The 73-hectare site has belonged to the Conservatoire du littoral since March 2011. The Métropole Toulon Provence Méditerranée manages it and is responsible for its upkeep, safety and visitor services. Marked paths lead through the protected landscapes. The Massif du Cap Sicié also has numerous hiking trails.
One specific route is the 10-kilometre coastal trail between La Lèque in Six-Fours and Fabrégas in La Seyne-sur-Mer, which runs along Cap Sicié. This distinguishes a clearly defined route from the many trails in the Massif: the route has specified endpoints and a stated length, while the wider selection in the Massif is not limited to this one connection.
Les Sablettes and Summer Activities
The hamlet of Les Sablettes was rebuilt by Fernand Pouillon between 1950 and 1953 and offers views of Cap Sicié and the Les Deux Frères rocks. Architectural heritage and coastal views are the focus here. In summer, activities such as scuba diving, windsurfing, kayaking and dinghy sailing are offered at Les Sablettes Beach. These activities are seasonal, so bear in mind that they are available in summer when planning your trip.
Fort Napoléon, the Pont-levant and Fort Balaguier
Fort Napoléon was built between 1812 and 1821. Its architecture combines a square ground plan with bastions, complete casemating and a central courtyard. The Cour d'honneur is used as a venue for performances, and two exhibition rooms are devoted to contemporary art. This historic fortification thus brings together military architecture, events and exhibitions.
The Pont-levant is another historic monument. It was designed in 1914 and built for the Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée between 1915 and 1917. A decree dated 3 November 1987 placed it under protection. Today, the Pont-levant is a viewpoint with panoramic views. Its history as an industrial landmark and its present-day function as a viewpoint are two distinct aspects of the same place.
Fort Balaguier has housed a maritime museum since 1970, with exhibitions on local maritime history, the prison of Toulon and the galley slaves. The fort can be visited independently or as part of a guided tour. At the museum, an immersive visit to the wreck of the Arroyo using a virtual-reality headset offers an impression of the deep sea and its biodiversity. The museum thus combines maritime history with a virtual way to explore the underwater world.
Provençal Market
The Provençal market in La Seyne-sur-Mer is also part of the local character. It offers local produce such as goat’s and sheep’s cheese, cured meats, honey, olives, tapenade, wines and spices.
When planning your trip, you can first decide whether the coast and hiking, summer water activities, historic buildings or the museum matter most to you. This lets you shape your stay around the things that interest you most in La Seyne-sur-Mer.
