Bormes-Les-Mimosas: Culture, Coast and Gardens
Accommodation in Bormes-Les-Mimosas
When choosing a hotel in Bormes-Les-Mimosas, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: are you mainly interested in historic buildings and art, mimosas and gardens, or coastal scenery and trails? The destination offers specific attractions in each of these areas. The differences between them can help you decide what kind of stay you would like to plan.
History and art
In the village of Bormes-Les-Mimosas, cobbled lanes and narrow paths are part of the picture, along with vaulted passageways, old fountains and flower-adorned façades. The Château des Seigneurs de Fos, Comtes de Provence, was built between the 13th and 14th centuries. It towers over the village and offers a view of the bay.
The Fort de Brégançon has an even longer history: it has been continuously inhabited or used since antiquity. In the Middle Ages, it was a fortified seigneurial residence on a rocky island. For another way to explore history and art, the Musée d'Histoire et d'Art de Bormes offers an augmented-reality journey through 2,400 years of Bormes-Les-Mimosas history and art. Its permanent and temporary exhibitions feature archaeology, paintings, drawings and sculptures.
Mimosas and gardens
Botanical attractions in Bormes-Les-Mimosas also have different focuses. The recently inaugurated Jardin du Mimosa Léon Chommeton contains 50 mimosa varieties, including 40 selected varieties from collections. The Parc Gonzalez is a remarkable garden created in the 19th century by enthusiastic botanists. La Pépinière Cavatore produces nearly 200 species and varieties of mimosa (Acacia).
The figures describe different things: the Jardin is home to 50 mimosa varieties, while La Pépinière produces nearly 200 species and varieties. They are therefore not directly comparable as like-for-like inventory figures. The Parc Gonzalez, meanwhile, offers its own historical perspective: its creation by botanically minded gardeners dates back to the 19th century.
Coast and hiking trails
The coast of Bormes-Les-Mimosas offers 17 kilometres of sand and a wide variety of beaches, from broad beaches such as Plage de la Favière to smaller, wild coves near Cabasson. The Sentier du littoral connects the sandy beaches via a trail along sand and rocks. It can be walked from the port of La Favière towards Cap Bénat.
The GR90 long-distance hiking trail crosses the Bormes-Les-Mimosas area. Seven hiking routes take between two and eight hours. The coastal path therefore focuses mainly on the terrain and direction, while the seven routes provide a specific time frame. You can take these different details into account when planning your trip without treating them as equivalent.
Wine cellars and tastings
Château Angueiroun offers a sociable tour of its wine cellar, with a tasting of six wines from the Réserve and Prestige ranges. Visits are by appointment; arrange a time before you arrive. The wine cellars at Château de Brégançon can also be visited.
