Discover Châteauvert: Art, Landscape and Wine
Accommodation in Châteauvert
When looking for a hotel in Châteauvert, you can consider different priorities when choosing your destination: landscape, contemporary art, outdoor sculptures, cycling and wine. The following themes can help you distinguish between nature interests, an exhibition visit, a bike ride or a wine-related activity as possible reasons for your trip.
Landscape and cycling route
Vallon Sourn consists of plateaus, gorges and meadows, and is home to remarkable flora and fauna. For cyclists, the “Des vignes à l’Art à vélo” round-trip route runs between Carcès and Châteauvert, through vineyards and Vallon Sourn to the Centre d’Art Contemporain. This makes it possible to combine the landscape with an art visit on a specific bike ride. The round-trip distance means you can plan the route as a standalone activity rather than factoring in only the way to the Centre.
Temporary exhibitions and outdoor sculptures
The Centre d’Art Contemporain de Châteauvert hosts temporary exhibitions, conferences and panel discussions. Depending on the occasion, a visit can therefore focus on an exhibition or a discussion event. By reservation, the Centre offers tours and workshops for children and all audiences, linked to the current exhibition. If you plan to take part in one of these activities, reserve the appropriate option and check the theme of the relevant exhibition.
The Jardin de Sculptures displays around twenty monumental contemporary sculptures outdoors. The garden covers 9 hectares and is open daily; check the opening arrangements before you arrive. Its outdoor presentation sets it apart from the Centre’s changing programme of exhibitions and discussions. The two art offerings therefore have different formats: temporary exhibitions and events at the Centre, or sculptures in the garden.
Church history and wine
The present-day church in Châteauvert is located opposite the bridge over the Argens. The church of the castrum belonged to a priory under the authority of Montmajour Abbey. Seigneur Raynaud transferred this priory to the abbey in 1004. The date refers to the transfer of the priory.
Château Routas offers tastings of rosé, white and red wines, as well as winery tours; wine is sold directly at the winery. The activities have different focuses: tastings feature the three wine types mentioned, while a tour is devoted to the winery. Opening hours and access conditions may change, so check the current arrangements before visiting.
The preparations required for your visit vary by activity: tours and workshops at the Centre require a reservation; for the Jardin de Sculptures, you should check the opening arrangements, while opening hours and access conditions at Château Routas may change. This makes it possible to include activities requiring reservations and those whose current arrangements need to be checked in advance in your travel plans.
